So, I'm hoping one of my fellow "research" junkies would have the answer to this question............... So, my Ausf L is gonna be a Staff/Adjutant vehicle. I want to add a extra antenna, I won't be making it a command variant, you know the version with the visor on the turret and no bow MG. What I am wondering is: does anyone know of a picture of an actual Panzer III with an extra antenna ? Here is a picture of a model, not the greatest reference....... Thanks...PJ2

In the Panzer Tracts #3-4 "Panzerbefehlswagen" you will find plenty of pics, but none of a Panzerbefehlswagen Ausf. "L". I'm not sure this even existed. There is one picture of a tank with a 5cm L/60 barrel, that was a "L" turret backfitted on a "J" Panzerbefehlswagen, but it had no visor next to the mantlet (that's what you mean, right?).
This special version with visor was called Ausf. "K" and it was based on the chassis of the "M", easily identifiable by the deep wading muffler. It further had a single piece commander's hatch, a new narrow mantlet for a functioning 5cm L/60 (no dummy!), MP-Stopfen at the turret rear, the left Sehklappe was without vision slit (taken from Panzer IV "F") the right Sehklappe was with. The turret roof was also different. There was a signal hatch right hand of the turret vent and no hatch on the left near the commander's cuppola like in your picture.
The model in the picture is a simple Panzerbefehlswagen Ausf. "J" with no extraordinary features.
50 "K" were completed by Daimler between Dec.42 and Feb.43. In May 43 they were retrofitted with skirts.

Right side. Left side. Overhead showing the layout of all three. Panzerbefehlswagen J as mentioned by Tobi. This was the first purpose built command tank with a gun in a rotating turret. Initial batch was assembled between September and November 1942. More were built in early 1943 after the concept was proved popular. There are shots of these on the web but you have to look carefully. The one I have seen in Tunisia has no star antenna and the armored pot is almost covered by gear. G

Gentleman, I really do appreciate your time, research and input. I probably wasn't as clear as I needed to be. What I seek is: solid research in the form of pictures of a Panzer III Ausf (late) J or early L with a second antenna. But again not the Ausf K command variant. My Ausf L is gonna be an staff/adjutant vehicle. Please not, I have an extensive library of HB books. I haven't found a good picture that clearly shows what I am looking for. In Schiffers Panzer Truppen Volume 2, there is plenty of written evidence to this vehicle, however they only list drawings and inventory numbers for the division I am building this from. I realize that I am being overly detialed and should just build what I am gonna build, BUT there is that side of my personality that likes to be accurate.....
THANKS AGAIN PJ2

Sorry, not a single trace in my library of a version "L" like you described, not in word, despite in picture. If you're able to gather some visual information on this topic please share here, because I will be glad to see it.
