I just found out from my guy at the LHS that many of the enamel military colors by Model Master are being discontinued. It seems the entire enamel Model Master II series (#20xx - 21xx) is on the chopping block.

It's something that's been rumored to happen for a while...there have been some individual retirements here and there the last couple of years but retiring the entire 20-21xx range would be a big step. I suppose that, more than anything, shows just how prominent acrylics have become in the hobby. The real kicker will be to see if they expand their acrylic line to compensate or just simply stop producing them entirely.

Going to have to agree with you on the growing popularity of acrylics helping to kill off enamels, though I, for one, will be sad to see them go.

Me too, especially since the MM-II line had a lot of specialized colors for specific call-outs (USN Measure Schemes for example) that are hard to produce otherwise through mixing or using 'similar' available shades. As a die-hard enamelist, it will certainly create more challenges!
