Gary, are sure abooot those 35 seconds.... LOL LOL LOL Thank you for your service as soon as they handed me my separation papers, I was officially out of the active Army and went into in-active reserve forces. The clock on the wall was right behind the guy that handed them to me. The bad part about this is that I actually had to spend an extra 48 hours in the Army thanks to a clerk that had his head in the wrong place. Ontop of that they couldn't find a set of dress greens for me to wear home. I was probably the only guy that got out with a set of tailor made dress greens. The pin head clerk forgot to give me the card to trade in for my air plane ticket back to the states. Then some guy that thought he was God just laughed at me. Now exactly seven days prior, I'd made a living out of turning a fool like that's head around backwards. I pretty much told him that his life was gonna be pretty short if he didn't get the problem fixed ASAP. I guess I motivated him pretty quickly, cause he then got somebody to fix the problem. Still just long enough to miss the flight home on the freedom bird. A week earlier I'd have introduced him to a 45 round without a second thought. After he got this LT. to fix the problem, he stayed as far from me as he could without leaving the room. Had they made me go back to Chu Lai, I think I know a clerk that would have visited the 312th MediVac Hospital. Or better yet, I'd just gone back home for another six months. gary

My humble apology for doubting the veracity of the time reported I don't know what for. I always thought the time line was kinda funny! The funny story about those custom made dress greens was that they were worn for about 16 hours, and then put in a closet. About a year later I see this guy living next door to my Mother In-law, and he looks like somebody I know. Finally, after a couple months I asked him who he was. Yes we knew each other on LZ Gator during Tet in 68. He had a buddy that went home early, and I asked Doug about him. Well I find out that Doug is a Police detective, and a First Sargent in the Army Reserves. (Last time I saw him RVN, he was a Spec 4!!) Doug was very close to my size, and one day I called him over to my place. I had boxes of new issue clothes and even shoes, and started handing it to him. I kept the field jacket and two pairs of tiger stripes. About a month later he drags me over to their headquarters for a look see. An experienced guy was hard to come by in those days, and their Captain offered me an E-8 slot on the spot. Told him that I really wouldn't fit in very well, as I didn't have a clue about the stateside Army! He asked me to come in from time to time to speak to these guys on why Doug was so hard on them. I did three or four times. gary
