I see many builds of the Meng FT-17 kit here and have searched for information but can't seem to find the answer. The directions call for the drivers compartment to be black while the rest is white. When closed up the drivers compartment would be excessively dark to me which is why I am asking.
I have found several pictures of restored FT-17's and found one with a salmon colored interior some with off white and gray. So what color should the interior be???
Recommendations for an interior set would also be appreciated.
Well this is a question completely outside my field of knowledge, so I'm just guessing here! The vehicle on display in Thun, Svizzera is painted completely white on the inside.
The idea of the white color for a tank interior until today has been always to catch as much light as possible on the inside with hatches closed. Somehow the Brits figured this could be achieved best by painting the interior silver, but the idea was the same. Black seems counterproductive to that. Salmon sounds like a wild mix of white and primer red due to shortage of both.
The reason why German WWII tank interiors later in the war were sometimes red up to the height of the sponsons was only to save some paint. The instructions of the Waffenamt throughout the war called for RAL9002 "Grauweiss" (and not Elfenbein, which is too dark!) as a standard, variations due to supply shortage were admissible.
Interior paint sets for modelers depend on which color type you prefer. Enamel, acrylic or lacquer?

I am incline to go with Toby on this one...off white to light grey would fit the bill. The thought was to keep things as bright as possible while sealed up in an armored sardine can. There is room for artistic license with some parts too...oxide and/or grey to ad a bit of eye candy...older pieces like this brass parts would be unpainted. Often the base would be painted one solid color and various parts brought in from other manufacturing plants already being painted, would be installed.
