Tony, you will like the South! Easy going people, nice climate. The only problem that might happen is the locals might call you "That Damn Yankee move-in" for a few years! ;<)

After 40 Year’s with my company PSE+G I retired today. They are the biggest gas and electric company in NJ,I didn’t get rich but it was a nice run,I,m one of those dinosaurs who retire with a pension.I,m happy to be out short of my 60th birthday, and I look forward to relocation to the Asheville area of North Carolina hopefully by early summer. congratulations!! I worked at one of the divisions of General Motors that most never know much about. First ten years were not fun, but still a job. Things started to change around 1985, and just got better. When I had twenty years in, I was offered an early out with my pension frozen till I turned sixty. I was going to take it as I had another job lined up in Arizona. My bosses boss got my position exempted from the offer. Over the years, about every three or four years I was offered one and was promptly exempted from it. By then the job was getting to be pretty good as they'd pretty much cleaned out all the idiots, so it didn't matter much anyway. About a year before I planed on retiring my Superintendent went on a three weeks vacation, and my brand new boss told me I had to go to this meeting about a new retirement package. Told him it was a waste of time, but he forced me. There was a guy from Detroit making the spill. Looked too good to be true. After the meeting was over I just sat there, and he came over to ask me if I had a question. I said where's the damned paper work? He didn't have it, but said he would have it faxed down right away. Twenty minutes later he has it (this is about 9:00 at night). The two of us did all the paper work with about fifteen people standing over us. We needed three witnesses, and they called upon the bystanders. Then there had to be two notary seals on it. They found a guy in a production department that was a notary, and the other came from their side. By 9:40 it was done. The head guy told it was binding on my part, but I could back out anytime over the next four to six weeks. Hell no, I wanted out! I go back to the tool room, and my boss asked me what it was about? I simply said I'm retiring the first day of August. He said great, and thanked me giving him time to find a replacement. Week later the big boss comes back and blows his top! Told me I was not retiring (keep in mind I had the time and age to retire anyway). He goes up front to Labor Relations, and the guy up there blows him off. He did get it extended till Christmas Eve. But what was funny was this woman called me up on the 20th of December, and told me to come in on New Years Day (triple time<g>). I went to the big boss and he said come in as it was flat stupid. They always bring in full crew to start up all the CNC machines and other critical systems, and then the production guys come in the next day. Saves a lot of money in the end. Anyway I go in and the boss of the crews said to just hang around till he needed me. There was nothing out there I couldn't do well, and in many cases I was they guy they came to. So I go back to the shop and just play Majong on the PC for eight hours! They came by every so often to see if all was well. What a job! So I worked one day in 2007, and qualified for half my vacation and of course 24 hours pay! They still laugh about it. When you retire, a lot folks just set around and vegetate. You gotta stay active! Go fishing or something else to keeps you moving. Money wise, it takes about two years to get fully adjusted to the money coming in. I really got into fishing, and when it's warm I'm out four to seven days a week. Also got active in the VFW, and became the resident Easter Bunny and Santa. good luck gary

Maybe we'll run across one another once you've relocated, though we'll still be 5 hours apart.

Sweet!! North Calinky's a great place, especially up in the mountains. You may have to take up hog hunting; I hear there's a lot of them around the area
Regards, Mark
