I ran out of SPGs and found this the other day in a blocked closet on the top shelf back there in my hobby room. My brother gave it to me as a gift back in 2006 or 2007,he built main battle tanks. I just opened the parts bags to start on it so if you Sherman fans have any advice to share I would appreciate it. I guess every collection needs a Sherman huh? Thanks Tony lee

I hope you realize Sherman is not a SPG? LOL Count me in... I haven't built a Sherman for decades so I won't be much help here.

The first thing you need to decide is where/when it is supposed to be. These were very late-war vehicles and saw relatively limited use in WW2. 1/3 of those shipped to Europe were never issued as they had too many. They were used in Korea and post-war. The HVSS suspension - as on this kit - only appeared on 105's in about September '44 and would only have made it to Europe for 1945. I'm not sure if HVSS M4A3(105)s were used in the Pacific: I know that some HVSS M4(105)s were. I don't know what other features Dragon have included in this kit that might limit its use and location, such as the late turret side bulge for the commander's cupola. Few if any A3(105)s were Lend-Leased, nor exported post-war as a lot were converted to ARVs and 76mm gun tanks. The Dutch Marines certainly had some (15 + 2 with dozers?). These may have been used in their incursion into newly-independent Indonesia, but those tanks may have been ex-British M4(105)s which they also had. I believe they kept the M4A3(105)s until the 1970's or even later. This was one variant (perhaps the only one!) that IDF never got their hands on. Colour options seem to be OD, OD or OD ........ You can find a potted history of the 105mm versions here: the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/manufacturer/m4_105mm/m4_105mm.htmlDutch site: www.shermantank.nl/history%20of%20the%20shermantank%20in%20Holland.htmDutch Marines museum tank picture: 2.bp.blogspot.com/-gLev1WPrMFI/WZ6EeX0cdqI/AAAAAAAAYYg/wdWNNR5Qt-g6jGzKMGiS5QdNlw6KVL4QgCLcBGAs/s640/DSCF7582a.jpg

Thanks Pete.I was thinking I would paint it O.D. Late war and after it shall be and the time period I was going for,the instructions don't tell you which parts to install for the different times. Thanks for the links,i'm hoping they show what needs to be installed. First Update: The fit has been good and the clean up easy. Tony lee

Been lingering forever, as I just can't figure out what to do with it. I did learn recently, that there were a small handful in the "Bulge." Plus I think the French might have had a few in Indochina. The kit looks like one of Dragon's better Shermans. Mine didn't come with a metal barrel!!!! gary
