Centurion rust bucket in Nam

[406 Silverado]

Well it's been some time since I did a nice rust bucket. I started this one a couple of weeks ago to kill some time until I good set up a new hobby room and bench. Spent about a week with the build and painting and weathering a week ago.

Built basically OOTB and I only added remnants of the canvas mantel cover and tie downs/handles using copper wire.








Most of the rusting is done, working on the wheels and final little bits before getting a small simple base ready for her.

I needed to get back into the rust thing and just have some fun. Was also a nice distraction from having to put my second dog down in 11 months.

Haven't done much on the Centurion the last few days, but will be hitting Home Depot for some wood and foam board to make a base for her. I had dug through some boxes looking for a base I though I had but it won't work for this model.....but will work for the SturmTiger.

Rough base cut and formed, also have the wood trim on the sides but no pic of that yet, waiting for glue to dry and then fine sanding. The base is roughly 7 1/2 x 12", largest base I've done in a long time. I pre cut the same size base for my M113 for when I get back to that project.

Man...................this is the "bee's knees" here Rob. Sorry to hear about your dogs. Been there and done that and you're right....it is tough.

Wood trim in place and first coat of gloss black applied, two more coats to be added later.
I've started on some of the groundwork but will wait until my order from The Scenic Factory arrives before I go any further. The plant was used to test size and layout for scale and etc. Once the new products arrive I will be able to get a better idea of placement of all the various plants, palm tree etc.

Boys, you nailed the rust on the Centurion. That and the faded paint are very realistic for a long abandoned vehicle.

This is Scratchmods build Martin. The admin account is an account all to its own and I took it over. Rob does indeed know his way around rust effects. It's really too bad that he's no longer in the hobby.

I think the secret to painting like the scratchmod tank above is patience and layering. You could do that if you put yer mind to it. I believe in you! lol

The work you're seeing there is before my time John. The admin account is just that...the admin account. Rob (scratchmod) held that account before me. There aint no WAY in hell I'm that good. Rob knew his stuff. He left the hobby a couple of years ago and no one knows why.

Ah I see, like you say shame the builder has stopped producing beautiful builds like this !

Rob was a true master in building wrecked armors and stuff!!! He is happy living in Germany now with his lovely wife. I really hope he returns to the hobby one day.
