Not yet Tobi, but I may. In fact, I should probably get in the bag myself. Mmmmm, wife's birthday party going on now, I think I'm "half in the bag" right now, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

A tale of two turrets..... IMG_5105 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Gimel's turret (the one with the shrouded gun tube) is caught up to Aleph, both now with reduced texture. I considered using the uncovered mantlet on Gimel, but found enough pics of "early" Magach 6's with and without mantlet ERA and the full cover, so I used it. It's a nice part, and it saves me having to scratch a partial dust cover, and leaves me with two naked mantlets for future projects. What I don't like: the soft plastic bellows. It has a mold seam that's a royal pain to remove.

And more small parts: IMG_5106 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I managed to shoot one of the searchlight mounts into low orbit (I'm having fun coming up with little catch-phrases here) so the Gimel turret has two Tamiya searchlight mounts, okay since they have the mounting balls on them and I'm going to leave the mantlet "clean". I was going to mount the ERA from an Italeri kit, even went so far as to clean up a part, and one quick test fit nixed that: it's just too small. So, a clean mantlet for Gimel, unless I decide I'm having too much fun and attempt to scratch up a frame.

Low-orbit is better than into a black hole! Turrets are looking good Russ.

The definition of fiddly: IMG_5161 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Tan parts are pirated from a Tamiya kit, I had issues with parts breakage. I also did the side rails for Aleph from brass, they won't be used on Gimel.

Cupola for ALeph is done, 30 cal mount added: IMG_5559 by Russel Baer, on Flickr And the turret is finished too, searchlight mount added from spare parts and scrap PE: IMG_5558 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Primer's next, then I may go ahead and do the base coat, adding a small amount of stowage last. The tank I'm modeling has very little stowage on board.

After a couple of hours, a cupola for Gimel; IMG_5561 by Russel Baer, on Flickr It's Academy, with scratched details. I have several to choose from, but the Academy parts are, IMHO, closest to the actual thing. I have Urdan cupolas from ESCI LoModel and ESCI, all either very much simplified or, in Dragon's case, just flat out incorrect. The newish Academy Magach7 and 6B Gal Batash parts are better, but I'm fresh out. And mounted to the turret, after thinning the base and cutting a groove to show the separation between the cupola and base: IMG_5563 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

Okay, I started the hull ERA on Gimel, using Verlinden (and another manufacturer's parts on this model, yay) and Academy bits. I'm either re-scoring the gap lines or separating the blocks, thinking I'll want some serious definition later on when I'm weathering. I thought I had more Academy turret parts, but I can't find any, so I either need to snag yet another Academy Magach kit of use either ESCI or Verlinden ERA blocks on the turret. Still thinking about that. Da pic: IMG_5565 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

'Preciate it! I added some small things, while waiting in the turret armor decision, and had a bit of fun. I also noticed the air cleaners on the IDF tanks had the handles remover, with the covers bolted down, so I had to fix that: IMG_5850 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Other side, with can racks on the bustle rack and the oil can box on the left rear fender: IMG_5851 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and use the ESCI turret ERA, it's not bad and plastic, a big plus for me. And lastly, the smoke boxes, Academy with covers make from cheap masking tape: IMG_5849 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'm having a blast, hope y'all are too.

Russ, you really need to enter this M60 at the IPMS Nats! It looks as if you poured diesel in the tanks it would fire up!

When's that? I'll probably finish this thing in a couple of months..... And thanks, just having fun and using up parts kits, of which I just bought a couple more. Gee whiz Wally.

Hmmm..... Well I was cobbling up turret ERA from ESCI and Academy leftovers, and not feeling the love, so I pulled out my Verlinden box and too a look. I decided to go ahead and dive in to the old Verlinden ERA, and I'm glad of two things: one, that I did, and two, that I have two sets of this stuff, because a lot of the parts are chipped, I'm sure because it's been handled by quite a few people over the years. I'm glad I took a good look at it and decided to use it, because it's really much more accurate than either Academy or ESCI, and truth be told, it's not bad prepping it either. So, pics. Right side has the back three pieces from V(erlinden), the rest are plastic, mostly ESCI. The V parts are a good millimeter thicker, my main gripe with all the plastic kit bits, and the securing bolts are more accurately placed. IMG_5946 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Other side, all V parts except for the front three: IMG_5945 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Also done are the spare track brackets on the rack, one with track hanging to test the fit. Look at me Mama, I'm goin' FAST now!

Okay, the right side is up to snuff. Just for giggles and grins, I used on Dragon piece (the gray one). Roof parts are Verlinden. IMG_6130 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

Just to make this one look different, I scratched up the armored box the IDF mounted the small searchlights in, and used a Tamiya mount for it. IMG_6249 (1) by Russel Baer, on Flickr I have one picture of this setup, so I took a guess here and there about its construction, but I can live with it.

Well, the lifting lugs bugged me, so off they came. Then, after looking at three very grainy pictures using my optivisor, I attempted the extra braces added by the IDF to hold this heavy contraption. I have nothing showing how they anchor to the mantlet, so I guessed. The mounts on the cover are probably pretty close..... I added grates for cooling air, intake and exhaust, on top. The sponge is holding the thing in alignment until it's all dry. IMG_6290 by Russel Baer, on Flickr And Aleph is tan, starting dark, will end up lighter. IMG_6289 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

T'anks! Not much happening here, work got in the way, but I have managed to scratch up the brackets for the crew weapongs on the turret roof of Gimel: IMG_6562 - Copy by Russel Baer, on Flickr And markings are on Aleph, good decals from the DEF M48 update: IMG_6563 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Next here is clear, then some panel line accents, but it's cold and windy pout right now, not a good time to spray. And then there's this: IMG_6564 - Copy by Russel Baer, on Flickr "This" used to be an Academy Magach7, finished a couple of years ago, something I did a horrible paint job on and never really liked, even hiding it in the very back bottom of my display case. So in a fit of modeler's ADD, I started stripping it and fixing all the holes and divots in an otherwise nice M60 turret, having in mind an early Magach6, same period as Apeph, with the hull intended for a "what if" project down the road. Can't help myself.....

I have a couple of FNs from a HobbyBoss Merk, but not sure if I'll have them in the racks. I didn't even think to see if they'd fit when I did the racks. The crew keeps them inside when they're buttoned up, so I could get away with them empty.... I had a little time yesterday, did one turret side rail, started the other side, but spent too much time just staring at the parts stash. IMG_6565 by Russel Baer, on Flickr
