I've been looking at the box for quite a while now, and having a fair amount of fun with the aulde Tamiya kit, I thought an up-to-date kit would be fun. Also, I snagged a partly robbed Meng Achzarit (early) alittle while ago with the intent of using the running gear on a Tamiya T-55, but hey, it's not my birthday and I'll try if I want to. Sorry. So, largely OOB, using Friuls, brass from the kit and maybe some from the still large pile left over from the Tamiya kit build, the in-box turned aluminum barrel and a bit of plastic stock, I'm in this far: IMG_3773 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3772 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The Friuls make it so far, in my ever-so-humble opinion. I was planning an Egyptian tank from the 4th Army, YKW period, but I've realized a Mod 1972 may be incorrect, so I'm researching now. Whatever I end up doing, it'll be clean and completely equipped (full fenders, both fuel drums and with the un-ditching log) just to be different.

A little time here and there and I have some turret progress to show. Kit parts except for the snorkel (Verlinden) and brass rod handrails and grab handles. IMG_3995 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

I was all set to, but I need to find a pic or two of one I like with real simple markings. I wanted to do one from the YKW, but so far all of those I've found have been "new" Mod 1972 with the RMSh tracks, or Mod 1962 tanks. I may start looking at later stuff as I have some Syrian markings. Either way, it'll start with a base coat of Russian green. I'd post a couple of pics of the model now, assembly all done, but Flickr is down.

You forgot the obligatory 105 mm hole in the turret! ;<) LOL! It's a possibility. I had an old ESCI T-55 that I had considered doing that with, but after looking at it, I decided it was a bit of a rat. I kept a few pieces but tossed the rest. I mean "rat": the wheels had off-center hubs, tons of flash and shifted molds, all kinds of bad juju. I still have that Tamiya kit, all ready for a penetration hole..... And..... I built up the lower hull of the AMX-30/AUF1 last night, weird stuff. I'm probably going towards an open-topped utility vehicle, kind of like the M-39.

Thanks Leon. I'm twiddly my thumbs on this one right now, can't decide on the final paint scheme.

I've got to imagine this is a pretty large step up from the Tamiya kit, no? Looks great! Needs paint!

Big time different. It's in green now, but I'm kind of stuck on where to go next, so it's warming up a spot on the shelf.

The Tamiya T-62 was a complete dog of a kit, but then it was a long time ago, before most people really cared that much about 'trivial things' like the model actually looking like the real thing...

Don't look now, but i just finished one, with about three pounds of AM junk. It's funny to compare it to the Trump model.....

Let me guess, you added a resin turret and an engine deck, because if I remember correctly those Tamiya parts were junk, plus the wheels were not so good either...
Yes, Trumps kit is light years ahead.

I'd post a couple of pics of the model now, assembly all done, but Flickr is down. Now I know enough about Russian tracks to call me stupid. (be nice) I noticed the otherday that Star Decals has at least one set of Northern Alliance T62 tank decals from Afghanistan. Which T62 I have no idea, but you probably know more than I do. Anyway, I ordered in three or four different sheets, and think I'll do at least a BTR70 someday. Gotta get my Grandson to take some pics if he's around one (T62 and BTR). The other one wasn't around opposition armor as he was with the 82nd. Anyway this (I can already foresee) is going to get into my wallet to buy him a fairly decent small camera and a hand full of SD cards. Grandsons are still cheaper than Granddaughters in the long run! Guess I never told you all, but I got two Rangers going at the sibling rival thing big time. I might as well get something out of it while it happens. There is an older brother who did two combat tours in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain, and he never passed up the chance to waive his combat hash marks on his sleeve at them. Now the middle one is getting ready to move up to E6, and has his CIB and a bronze star with the V and Oakleaf clusters (plus two combat tours). Look for the youngest to get bored with the 10th mountain Ranger Battalion and move towards SF. I really do worry about them a lot, but they're also grown men by now. All three are older than I was in the combat zone, and that alone is very important to survival gary

Yes, Trumps kit is light years ahead. Matt The thread is on this board, but yes, I threw the whole Verlinden catalog at it. When the Trump kits came out, people unloaded anything to do with the old Tamiya kits, and since I had one in the stash anyway, I got about three pounds of resin and brass for a very reasonable price. Oddly enough, I moved the box with the all-green model out of my way this afternoon, thought: "I really ought to finish that".....

The first scratch work I ever did was on a Tamiya T-62, I rebuilt the whole upper deck, then realized that the turret was not very good, I ended up throwing it all away, that was a long time ago, I was 15,16 I think. I checked out your build yes, you did a much better job than I did Matt

Well, besides the six-legged puppy in Oklahoma (not surprising) I went to move this thing out of the way the other day and did a forehead slap- it's in overall green, just sitting there... I really need to finish it.
