I'm just going with it at this point: if it feels good, do it. It feels good to build Shermans, and I have a few in the stash. Also, in the process of rounding up M50 and M51 parts, I've "discovered" quite a few parts or even kits I'd forgotten about, so any time I run into something on one of the IDF Shermans I want to ponder on, I set it aside and take care of business. From left to right: Dragon M4A1(DV) with Asuka T51 tracks 'cuz they look more like T41 tracks, a mostly Tamiya and MP M4 with a Dragon turret and Dragon T51 tracks, and last a Tamiya M4A3E8, ETO boxing with Friuls. IMG_5940 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'm thinking the 'E8 will be built as a very early CDA tank, with the weird extra lifting eye and split loader's hatch, just because I like the look of it and I have a couple of nice pics. A word or two about the "new" Tamiya 'E8 kits: they're great, just like Tony the Tiger says: very well engineered, near perfect fit and satisfyingly pleasant ease of assembly along with what I think is really good detail. I keep getting to a step and thinking; "that's really thoughtful", like the fact that all the hull mounted towing lugs have weld beads molded onto the hull where they mount. I expect I'll be using wire to make grab handles and adding some small amount of brass here and there, but not much at all. It's that good. I know Asuka is better as far as fine details, but I'm really impressed with this kit so far, which is nice because there's seven more in the stash, split between the ETO and Korean War releases.

I agree with you. Shermans are my favorite vehicle of all time, and since there are a few companies offering awesomely detailed kits , I say 'why not?' Your builds are looking great so far. Look forward to seeing the finished vehicles! Nice to see you using a vintage MP Models Sherman parts kit. I built one of those using Tamiya add ons and a Verlinden turret many many years ago. I've currently have 7 Shermans I'm working on. Plus the Takom M46 and a few others! From left to right, Meng 1-35th M4A3 .76, Dragon 1-35th Early M4 DV, Rye Field Model Sherman M4A3E8,(without interior kit), Asuka 1-35th M4A1, Tamiya 1-35th M4A3E8, Asuka 1-35th M4A1 DV (early), Meng 1-35th M4A3E2 Jumbo. Been quite busy. Cheers!! Harold

I need to throw up another pic. Just 'cuz, I drug out my last Tamiya M3 Lee and started the lower hull, since I scored a Panzer Art turret on ebay. Yeah, right. I'm currently working on grafting an Italeri rear hull plate in and making the idler mounts look less toy-like. I'm having a blast. I also have the turret for the 'E8 moving along. It's a Dragon part, split loader's hatch, third lifting eye and I've grafted in the Tamiya mantlet. It actually looks like it belongs there, under a fair amount of MrSurfacer 500 and some stock.... And speaking of resurrection old stuff, I found a very old conversion from at least 20 years ago, a Verlinden M4A1 DV hull on a Tamiya M3 lower, without the turret. I can't even remember what turret was on it, but it's painted and weathered, lots of bits knocked off. In another box I found a resin ADV/Azimut low bustle Sherman turret that I have no idea where or when I picked up, so it's a perfect match. Oh heck..... You've certainly got an eye for the details on these vehicles. Very good progress.
