Love the build. Cant speak from experience but I've always heard its very lush and green due to the long rain period.

Good grief. What truly incredible build. I am continually blown away by the skill on this site. And there is so much great stuff I've never even seen before. Glad this one made a trip back to the top.

I just found this and read through the whole thing. I cannot express how overwhelmed I am at the quality of this model and the realism you captured. It's time for me to quit! This is so unbelievable!

OK so static grass applicator and different shades of "grass" are now on hand. Couple of queries I have though. Anybody know how green the grass is in southern England in March? May sound like a silly question but I want to get it close. Any tips on using a static grass applicator? Going to practice per YouTube instructions but this is new to me. Looks like James came through with the reference shot. I'll be watching for updates on this already magnificent project Tony.

I love the tarps you made. Really great execution of a challenging build.
As for static grass - the process isn’t terrible with the application tool. Make sure to have a good even layer of glue down for the grass to adhere to. I typically go back after the grass is good and dry and weather it to give a more natural look. Most fields are not one solid shade of green.

Would you mind explaining how you did the tarp? I will be doing a A6M2-N Rufe in rough shape next spring and would love to also include a tarp just like yours!

I keep several different ones on hand (my wife hates it) as they all can have a different pattern embossed in them. That particular one I believe was a Froot Loops pack like this. It has a fine almost fabric like pattern. Also works well for straps, harnesses and seat belts This one is from a pudding cup. The sort of swirl pattern takes a wash really nice. Not as big though so restricts what it can be made into unless you add a seam.

Other sources can be sourcream, Pringles chips, chip dips and other stuff in plastic containers.

Got it from some sour cream in our fridge. That looks like it has a great texture to it. Painted and a light wash to bring out the pattern and that is good for all sorts of things. You could even use it as is if you ever want to do a VW hippie van or beach diorama!
