Work on the abandoned mittlerer Zugkraftwagen continues at an extremely leisurely pace. As the vignette base is now evolving, it was time to test fit the painted accessories onto both the load area and cab, ready for final fixing. I suspect a few items will still have to be removed or placement tweaked but I'm nearly there. Less is more and all that! The green stuff sculpted tarps were made almost 10 years ago when I built the vehicle and are very crude in places. As the one over the cab tilt frame is fixed in place, it will require a little more work to make it look like a convincing discarded item. The one draped over the equipment rack is removeable so I am currently re-sculpting a new one. The one hanging over the rear of the loadbed planking will receive some extra material over the rear portion to disguise its overscale edges etc. Fingers crossed the plan is to get this done before the end of the month so I can start blending in all the added items. I'm really looking forward to these final weathering steps to harmonise it all together.

Very nice piece. So much detail for the eye and your winter camo is so subtle and well executed. Beauty!

I don't even know where to begin with saying something about the progress on this bad boy Los. The details are amazing and there's literally something new to see every time I look at this. Your tarp that you did 10 years ago is eons ahead of where I'm at right now and would be interested in learning your "new" method for making tarps. Beautiful work bud. It's really good to see you again losboz. Don't be such a stranger man. Love your work.

That is some amazing work. Well cluttered, too. Thank you Lyle. Planning to un-clutter it a little, but still want it to look like lots of discarded smaller items have been 'chucked' on

Layout will be based on the two period images that I posted earlier in the post. I've used styrofoam for both the road and the buildings. I'll do a little SBS section on it soon, once I get up to the painting stage with it

Great weekend with some old buddies I've not hooked with since before the pandemic. I had a good chat with a guy who is an amazing figure painter and he gave me some new ideas about working and sculpting simple tarps. He recommended using a mixture of both Green Stuff and Magic Sculpt. The first tip he gave me about using GS, which I will take onboard, is to cut off and bin the strip that connects the blue and yellow parts together. That is generally what will cause the random small hard pips of already hardened material, once you start rolling and thinning it out. Even once mixed, GS remains more rigid so its ideal for straps and bandoliers etc, whereas MS can be worked to a much thinner consistancy. He prefered it for constructing thin flat sections of material. As he advised, mixing both mediums together is worth playing around with. He prefered to use a little Vasoline to provide it sticking to both fingers, rollers and other sculpting tools, whereas I know a few guys who use a little baby talc instead. Obviously the Vasoline residue will all require cleaning off before paint application. I'm gonna give mixing the two mediums together and come what may, will post up the results ASAP
