Well, it's been a while but I've decided I will be tackling this, slowly.

I'll be following along!
One of these days I'd try one of these.

You get a decent box of bits. On top of the pile is the Meng metal fork upgrade set I picked up too.

I will also be using some but probably not all of this.

WOW! I don't think I've ever seen a Meng motorcycle kit before. With all of those detail pieces (in addition to what's already in the box) this should build up to be one heckuva nice build. That Hobby Design detail up set looks pretty elaborate Mence.

That Hobby Design detail up set looks pretty elaborate Mence. They're interesting kits. In theory, you don't need glue to build one but I will probably. The HD set is very neat, possibly a little overkill for me so will use only what I feel is necessary to achieve the look I want.

I bought the pre coloured version without really understanding, assumed the sprues would be moulded in roughly the right colour (I will paint them all anyway). What I didn't realise was that not only are the tank and tail piece moulded in metal and very heavy, they are actually pre painted! Looks great but I am worried about the durability of the finish so will clear coat to be safe.

We're off. Engine first, a combination of glue, screw and dry fit. Detail is nice, really needs detail painting after I've thrown some semi gloss black at it.

Chaps. Slow going at the moment, other things going on. Got some paint on as a base for detailing. Using Tamiya Laquer paints through my dodgy AB. It goes on very smooth with a uniform finish, highly recommended. While I am fiddling with that, the swing arm / drive shaft housing is under way. All very straightforward, a small piece of BMF helped replicate the damper rod shine. Flexible gators at each end of the assembly are flexible vinyl, nice touch. Back soon.

Nice to see this being built here, have looked at this kit a few times but haven't decided to buy it yet.

Thanks chaps.
It's not quite as detailed as Tamiya's newer 1/6 releases but probably better than any other styrene 1/8 or 1/9 out there. Clever engineering though.

News breaking, an update! Finished the drive shaft assembly and rear brake. I was going to use the brake disc from the Hobby Design upgrade set but the kit part looks to be more accurate. Anyway, that mates to the engine block while slipping into various mounting points on the frame. Three hands would have been useful at this point but somehow my sausage fingers managed. After that, three or four lengths of vinyl hose wrapped things up. On with the rear fender and lights and we're up to date. Thanks for dropping by.

Looking great so far. I'm not familiar with this scale and am having troubles getting just how big this is without an object next to it for reference. It must be huge!

Okay, I'm surprised it is not actually bigger. A lot easier to detail than the smaller scales I imagine.

Wheels!, one of them at least, Clever construction although I needed to shave the locating pins off one side of the hub so everything played nice. Rim was painted gloss black which is not standard, the real deal has satin black. Cheers.

Rim was painted gloss black which is not standard, the real deal has satin black. Cheers. I've done things with scale subjects like this to add interest to the build. For instance, the Jumo 213 in my Fw190 is supposed to be black but I painted it gray instead so all the detail wouldn't get lost on the Aires engine. With this bike I can see why you may have done that because satin black would've blended in to all of the rest of the black that you had on this bike. The gloss black makes the wheel stand out a little more to me.

Should be an update tomorrow chaps, things a bit hectic here.
Decided I'm probably not going to use most of the detail up set, so far, I've found the kit detail pretty decent and most will simply benefit from careful painting.

Soooo looking forward to the next update. I've done the same thing as you have in the past with having an "update set" only to find that the kit didn't need any update at all.

Apologies for the much promised update not happening, work, life and other bits conspired against me again. Anyway, here goes. Front wheel built, all good stuff but the ABS sensor ring had to be held with Cyano. Back to the engine, cylinders, heads and intake hoses / efi assembled, painted and fitted. I did yield and use some of the Hobby Design set for the hose clamps and a few other bits. Fuel pipes added to the injectors, they will be routed away under the tank somewhere. Little more detail painting to be done but that can happen later. That's it, hopefully you won't have to wait so long for the next update.
