Just so it can’t be said here that I have never built a non military car model… I built this while on deployment in the Balkans back in ‘05. . It was on clearance at the base PX for a few bucks and I needed something to keep myself busy with during down time once we got all settled in and took over the mission from the unit that we releived. I ordered some paints from Squadron and brush painted it. I used polishing sticks to buff out the Model Master Acrylic flat pants into gloss. I left it there, along with all the other kits that I built on deployment when it was time to come home

I've seen this one from you but maybe I might've missed the fact that you used MM flat and buffed it into a GLOSS??!! You sir.....win the Modeler of the YEAR award for that!!

Thanks 😉 Yes, those were Model Master Gun Metal and Flat Aluminum, both flat paints. I’d paint, let the color dry, buff it out, then do another coat and repeat the process. Eventually it got the shine that I wanted. I remember doing that sort of process on wood in shop class, so I figured it might work on a model.

You sure worked some good magic with it Carlos.

This is about as good as it gets for an on-deployment brush-painted build!

This is about as good as it gets for an on-deployment brush-painted build! I did one more deployment build that was brush painted, then I was able to acquire an airbrush and compressor for a few more… 😉

Great job on the build and the PAINT, Carlos! Being stuck out in NEVER-NEVER LAND on deployment and making this build look that great...specially making a gloss paint job from flat paint and not using any clear coat...shows your diligence and patients.

You're right Gary. That's something that I failed to mention about being on deployment and making something come out that good.

Gary and Joe, thanks. It's amazing what you can do with those ultra fine grit sanding/polishing sticks. As long as the surface is not to complex in shape and you have time on your hands...

You achieved this while deployed.... speechless Carlos you built a great F1 car my friend Thanks Brent. It is a fairly simple kit to build, and had zero problems there. Just trying to make it look nice in the paintwork was the challenge with what little stuff I had on hand or available in the little PX we had on the base.
