Tim fields and his father built a 57 Chevy back in the early 70's. Built the 327 to the hilt...added headers and 3 Deuces to the top. To say the least, it was fast. It had a very cool blue paint job with Ghost flames on the hood. Tim's wife is my cousin, Teresa Fields. She raced in the Northern Calif racing scene in the late 70's to mid 80's. I built two of her cars and not to leave Tim by the way side....I wanted to do his 57 Chevy. So...here's a few pics of that 57 Chevy that really kick butt on the streets of Redding Calif. in the 70's.
The Car...The only pic we had to go on....
The build....
Just a week before I went down to Redding California to give it to Tim...I went to a model show in Portland, Oregon and it did pretty well in the contest. The Car and Trophy/Plaque went to Tim the following week. It was total unexpected by Tim and that was waaaay to cool. Unfortunetly...Tim passed away 2 yrs after He got the car. AT least he got to look at his 57 again....

That is too bad that Tim passed away Gary and I'm sorry to hear about that. It was indeed cool that he got to see his car again for a while.

The Color is Dupli-color Med Quasar Metallic Blue. #BGM 0438. It's a very cool blue. Yea...Tim liked the build. He had it sitt'in on the shelf, just left of the T.V. So, when he watched the tube...he could see his car.

That is a beauty. 57s make such great hot rods - just beefy and aggressive looking. Used to stop in Redding for breakfast growing up on the way from Sacramento up to the Trinity mountains for a couple weeks of camping and trout fishing every summer.

Hey John...small world for sure. Camped as a kid with Mom, grandmother and Great Grand parents in the trinity mountains. My great Grandmother was the fisherman in the family. She could pull a trout out the stream when no one else could. We camped up at HAT Creek a lot. Granddad made HOBO coffee the first thing in the morning. Man...that really smelled good. Then he opened up at least 3 cans of canned potatoes, sliced them up and started cooking them in a cast Iron skillet. Then he got the bacon started on another cast Iron skillet. Man....what a smell. As a small kid (8-10 or 11), that smell stays with you the rest of your life! If you camped in the Trinity Mountains...I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about. It's waaaay to cool.

We were further west at Coffee Creek on highway 3 north of Trinity Center. Our breakfast consisted of cooking a bunch of bacon in the cast iron skillet, pull the bacon, fry eggs in the bacon fat, throw a couple 9" breakfast trout in the pan and fry them in the bacon fat, pull it all out and throw in a can of beans - mix it all up with the bacon fat and go to town. Greatest breakfast in the world! Ya those mountain trips were everything to me until I found out about girls

This is extraordinary looking good, Gary. How do you make the spark-plugs? Thank you for looking in and the compliment, Tobi. I take a piece of black small gauge wire and strip the insulation off for the plug boot. I then take the open end of the plug wire and put in the black boot that I just cut to a scale 3". I then cut a small V about 1" (scale) up from the end and super glue it. Let it dry and then cut about a 1mm for the spark plug. Ca glue it to the pre-drilled hole that you did earlier and there you have it...90 deg spark plug boots. Hope that helps a little, Tobi.
I use MAD distributors that come pre-wired. I used to drill out the kit distributor in the past, but since MAD started making them with different colored wires and Dist. caps and in 4cyl,6cyl,8cyl engines..... I bought them from him. A whole lot easier for me.
Thanks for the compliment, Budho...

That is a gorgeous build! There's something really special about a '57 done up in the 70's. To my eyes, they just look 'right' with a set of Cragars and a little bit of rake. You nailed it.
