Great work. I've always like the look of the Shackleton

I've gotta say in all my time building aircraft that I've never seen one of these in the books, 1:1 or in scale. I can definitely say that with that paint and all the details that this turned out very well. Very well indeed. And thank you for the back story on an aircraft that I've never known anything about Kyle.

Fabulous Shackleton Kyle. You have done a remarkable job on it all around. These newer Airfix kits are indeed quite nicely molded and detailed as well as nice to build. You have quite a knack for aircraft building and I sure hope to see more from you.

I think the OP said this one was Revell but I've seen the Airfix one built by a friend and it is very nice. And although it's an earlier generation kit the Airfix model of the Shack's successor, the BAe Nimrod is an impressive beast too.
Cheers,
M

Good looking build! And of a type not frequently seen, so that makes it all the more enjoyable.

However this build really make me want to build the Airfix as a comparison. I’ve heard the quality is comparable but the Airfix has some ordnance and better interior details. Perhaps I’ll build that one sometime with the door open or something. But then I’d have two giant Shackletons to try and house! 😂

Indeed. I only went with Revell because I got it exceedingly cheap. I think it’s around the same vintage as the newer Airfix tooling as well. I have seen some builds of that one too and would like to get one to build and compare with the Revell

Definitely was a learning experience. The amount of propellers alone was daunting. Perhaps I didn’t know any better until I got into it. A normal person probably would’ve started with a spitfire or a Mustang. Lol. But I’m glad I did this one. Really enjoyed it.

I do find it a bit odd that airfix and Revell both tooled up a new Shackleton. Can’t say I’m sorry I chose the Revell (due entirely to price and availability) but the Airfix looks to be a great kit as well.

That's a great looking model of an airplane that could give the RNAS some serious competition in their coveted "Most Ugly Aeroplane Contest". I am simply dumbstruck by the British penchant for placing landing gear forward of the main spar in a tricycle gear aircraft. They did it to the Canberra as well. And we modelers have to suffer placing inordinate amounts of weight into every nook and cranny to prevent tail-sitting.

She's a beauty. And big, even in 1/72 scale.

Beautiful model! Probably quite complicated because of size and too many propellers. But, please, do photos of a such beauty on monotone background (light grey or white A2 paper) so we could appreciate all efforts you made to build great model. Cheers.

It is sort of ugly in a way but I love twin tails, as a general rule and 4 griffons with 8 props really called to me. Lol. And to your point on the landing gear configuration. I have so much lead stuffed into the nose of this thing it is absurd. I had room for no more. And it STILL teeters on the brink of being a tail sitter. One tiny nudge is all it takes to sit it back on its haunches.

And you are absolutely right, of course. My hobby does not extend into photography. I really have no idea what I’m doing. I just use my phone, don’t even own a camera. The countertop is chosen because of simply having the best indirect overhead lighting. However, I really should throw together a simple white background. I think I even have some white poster board. Not sure it’s enough to photograph this beast but it would work for my cars

It totally changes the way our models are viewed that's for dang sure.

Mine is just bad. 🤣 Something to work on in the future. Suppose I could start dragging them outside when they’re done too. The sunlight always looks nice.

Dang Kyle, that's being pretty hard on yourself dude. What you've got here isn't bad at all. A camera would take the good shots you've got here and make 'em even better is what we're driving at potna.
