I wear the head band flip down style magnifiers.. But after prolonged use it gives me a headache. I feel dumb for not thinking of wearing regular glasses. Are you using just regular readers? Or something specific? Great work so far! Thx! I wear regular readers, 2.75 mag for most everything, then an optivisor for the really small stuff, like placing and shaping the bits of .010 x .020 plastic strip on each end of all the footman's loops on this thing. Question: Looking at your screen name, do by chance you have more than a passing familiarity with Datsun 510's? I do! Or well... Did. Lovely little cars. This was mine before I stripped her down. Wanted to build a track only car and get into time attack stuff. For fun, not anything professionally. But my career started moving me around a lot and I had no where to store the car. I sold it. Last I heard it was shipped to Finland or somewhere and was ice racing.

Looks good. I went through a few of them doing autocross, mostly DSP in SCCA. I can now confess to running slightly "illegal" bits, but my main competition was blantly doing the same. Nobody protested anyone, so all's good now, 25 years later. I ran an L16 block, crank and rods, Z pistons, SSS head and L20 cam, with a PL 521 4-spd. Intake was the Datsun Comp dual 2bbl Mikuni on the comp manifold, Mallory dual-point distributor and a Pacesetter header. Old school.

Stop me anytime if I am mucking up your thread about our old Datsun's. Happy to take it to PM. That sounds like fun peppy little car. I'm happy to hear you had some good times with it! Mine never saw a single race event. The photo I posted was the last day I drove her. Stock L16 weber DD carb dogleg 5 speed. She over heated on the bay bridge and I said **** it. Race Car. So I stripped her bare. Installed a 18 point roll cage and started the process of removing bits of stuff that were not needed. getting rid of some surface rust. But never got to the finish line. In hindsight what I should have done was found a 2nd car. At the time, in running condition they were going for 2200 to 5000. 5k being Original paint and full interior clean. Id still be driving her today if I had done that. now they are close to 20k for a good one. less if they are pretty rough but still pretty expensive. Most people wont understand but this will literally go down as one my life's greatest regrets. But I was young, stupid with the little money I did have and hadn't found my "career" yet. You live and you learn! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Ha! If only I could conjure up any one of the several I had..... I'll have to root around in the picture box under the guest be now. Back to tanks though. Pic following is the state of the onion as it sits now. I scratched the storage box for the search light that's attached to the turret since AH supplies one more appropriate for the '82 Peace for Galilee operation and timeframe. It was easy since I had the AFV Club part to copy, plus drawings and pics from an old MilMod I got off eBay. IMG_4029 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4030 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The hold-down on top is just laying there, thinking about making it quite a bit narrower before I add the small bits.

Ready for paint: IMG_4032 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4031 by Russel Baer, on Flickr A couple things are different, changes made due to AH's instructions having the builder add items that were not on the tank for the YKW period, namely the spare ammo rack on the turret roof and the factory brackets for the TC's and loader's personal weapons. I also need to move the left side spare track bracket (on the glacis) up about a millimeter.

Last I heard it was shipped to Finland or somewhere and was ice racing. Now THAT'S a pretty sharp little car James. I've sold off all my car hot rods but I'm the kind of person who doesn't like knowing where they end up. Once they're gone I like for them to stay that way after all the stuff that I did to 'em. My brother sold his 67 Mustang Coupe to someone local and saw it after they had totaled it. Bummer. Ol' rbaer has got a pretty spiffy little WRX. Nice car that seems like it'll scream if the gas is put to it. I no longer have a sports car which bugs me a little but I spent a few bucks on my truck to bring it up to speed.

T'anks all! It's in color now, long dumb story but the final (probably) color shot is Vallejo "bone white" on the upper surfaces, Taniya TS-46 "light sand" on the lower. IMG_4043 by Russel Baer, on Flickr So while I was waiting for the paint to cure (Tamiya primer, Model Master desert sand from an OLD can, Vallejo and Tamiya color) I pulled out another shiny object and piddled along a bit.. I have 1 and 3/4 of these: IMG_4040 by Russel Baer, on Flickr ...and it took about two hours to get this far: IMG_4038 by Russel Baer, on Flickr It's tiny, too small for it's own blog but I may throw a pic of it in here now and then. Barbie tank?

Not quite Finland, but a foreign country as far as I was concerned.... Sorry Bryan. IMG_4054 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Yup, those are real Minilites. The stickers are part of a tire deal I had, maybe the last gasp of a program that evaporated by 1990.

Love it! I looked forever for a 4-door. Nothing was popping up when I was ready to buy.

My first one, bought when I was in high school, was a 2 door, then another 2 door but after that I looked for 4 doors. I was popping welds in the shells of 2 doors and somebody told me 4 door shells were stronger (smaller door openings) so that was what I built from then on. I went through three or four before I moved on to a '90 Sentra SE-R. That was a fun car there. Back to the Sho't now... overall wash is done, pin wash nearly so. IMG_4058 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The mantlet cover needs to be a lot lighter but I like the color otherwise. Stowage items are all primed, ready for color and placement. I need to check on which items are appropriate for the time period before I decide which items to use out of the Legends set.

Heck, it doesn't look like you've got that far to go now! I looked up the Sentra SE-R that you mentioned and was pretty blown away by the 140 hp with a 7500 rpm redline in a car that only weighed in at 2500 lbs. Impressive for its day.

Thanks all! I have a little more done, almost time to start adding stowage items. I'll get a pic or two up later. Joe, the SE-R was a hoot, crazy torque steer and a lovely exhaust note, all in a totally nondescript sedan. Mine was black and we called it Bob, from the commercials Nissan ran for it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAFAjUnwCwg

Somehow I think we were a lot more innocent back then. But that's just me. And so here's the Sho't, very nearly done. I need to add the antenna masts and the tow cable locking disc on the forward mount, and I'll wait until after the IPMS deal next week to do figs. Besides, I need more heads. Actually, I need figs, but finding the appropriate '70s era figs is tough. I can see a large opportunity if one of the majors would pony up and do some guys in both coveralls and tunics with the correct headgear. Anyway, pics of the tank: IMG_4060 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4061 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4062 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4063 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4064 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4065 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Oh yeah: add headlight and spot light lenses to the "to do" list.

Adding stowage to the armored vehicles always make them look more complete in my opinion and you did great! Were those made by Value Gear or it came in a set just for that kit?
