AMT/Ertl 1934 Ford Tudor Sedan

Well, since I'm primarily an automotive builder, I thought I would add another build to the group build. Peak Ertl stuff right here with this kit. It has been going together exceptionally nicely and has some really great details. Another antiquing find I got a good deal on and I'm glad I did. Here's the boxing. In rough shape but it was all there. Decals were shot but I wouldn't have used them anyways so no loss.



First up was prepping and painting the body so it would have plenty of time to dry. MCW silver blue metallic on the fenders and the dash and MCW Antique Silver on the body and hood. Flat black for the fabric roof insert. Haven't made a decision on wheels or even the engine yet. It comes with one of the nicest plastic flatheads I have seen. It's so nice I want to build it and display it outside of the car. Might break out one of the potato engines I have and just slide it in there since it won't be seen much anyways.







And, just this evening I got the chassis and suspension put together. No issues at all there either. I will probably go ahead and paint the gas tank silver but other than that this is finished. Now to make some decisions. More updates soon!

I have seen this kit pretty much all my life and never got one. You'll have to show us that engine Kyle as I'd like to see how that looks.

Get it if you see it again. It really is a lovely kit. I’ll be building the flathead for sure, even if I decide on holding off installing it, so I’ll post photos.

Made some progress and some decisions. I decided I'd do a pseudo hot rod, and install a 390 Thunderbird plant out of the 34 Ford pickup kit. It's not a greatly detailed engine but it'll look appropriately hopped up under the hood. I just did some fancy metallic blue paint, gold carb, aluminum intake and finned air cleaner. Script on the valve covers is now picked out with gel pen but I didn't get a photo of that. But I also wanted to keep a stockish look. So I'll be sticking with the factory wire wheels, using the skinny white walls as front runners and the custom fatties out back. I also slapped the little flathead together. The kit also provides a standard single carb intake as well as finned cylinder heads. I opted to go with the smooth ones and the dual carb setup. I will use this in something at some point. Interior also got completed as well. Simple tan with gray and black floors and some detail added to the gauge with colored pencil. The custom wheels in the kit are some bigs and little smoothies. Not a huge smoothie fan but stuck some random tires on them to see what they look like and I could probably use them somewhere.

Looking good! Seeing your work on the wheels made me wonder if car kits usually have the wheel molded in one piece? If so, then why can't the other kits manufacturers especially the wingy kits do the same!

I'm not normally a big fan of the 390 but in this case it's definitely an upgrade. This is lookin' sharp so far Kyle. REALLY sharp!!

Thanks! Normally you have an outer wheel, which is the part that looks nice and a wheel back that rides on the hub. Although some kits do have the wheel as one piece. Just depends on kit manufacturer and wheel design I think.

Work cut me a break this past week, so I was able to make a lot of progress and I got this one shoved over the finish line. This was a strictly "for fun" build so there are no added extras or really even any detail, just some fun modifications to fit my vision for it. I am really happy with how it turned out, particularly my choices for the 2-tone. The 390 disappeared nicely into the very tight engine bay. Another reason I didn't feel inclined to add much detail. I used some solder to make a sort of homemade side dump exhaust. And, I used the sweet, optional greyhound hood ornament. I wanted to go with the wire wheels, but with the weekend warrior feel I was going for and the big 390 I sourced some bigger more modern tires for the back and used the stock skinny whitewalls up front to have a weekend warrior style drag pack. Not much to add, I don't think. Had a lot of fun with this build, as always. Thanks for looking.

I love that you hot rod dead it up with the hidden engine…I’ve had people at shows ask why I bothered putting in things that can’t be seen, when they discover such things exist, and I always tell them, “Because *I* know they’re there”. Super work on the finish….looks positively fun to ride!!!

Thank you! Unfortunately for me (probably most of us) nobody ever sees the detail I add either. I still usually do it. But no one sees it. I just didn’t care this time
