Eduard introduced a new type of Decal in the early 2020's. The idea being that you can remove the carrier film after the decal has been placed and dried. The advantage of this is it removes the problem of silvering of the carrier film both on and around the decal. So does it work ?........well yes and its not quiet as frightening to do as you might expect. You just spent several months and a small bank loan to build your latest masterpiece and the thought of ruining it at the final stage might make you just fit the decals as you always would with future and flat coats etc. A picture is worth a thousand words they say Lay down your decal as you normally would using micro set
The carrier film is very evident while the decal is wet with microset

Now THAT is some very useful information paddy! I would've never known this. White spirits....I think I know what that is but could you shed a little more light on that? +1 Karma to you bud.

I used the similar new decals on my Eduard Spitfire recently and it came out GREAT!!! I admit I was very nervous at first but after watching couple of YouTube video clips which helped me. The result was just amazing and very flat with none of shiny at the end! I hope other manufacturers will follow suit too. Also I wonder if there are aftermarket decals makers that use same stuff out there too so I can order those for other kits?

This from Wiki White spirit (AU, UK and Ireland) or mineral spirits (US, Canada), also known as mineral turpentine (AU/NZ), turpentine substitute, and petroleum spirits, is a petroleum-derived clear liquid used as a common organic solvent in painting. Hope this helps

Thank You very much for taking the time to post this step by step process Paddy. Hugely informative. I have acquired some MRP paints but, have yet to use them on a model. Your suggestions are duly regarded. Some good karma is headed your way.

I've read about this before (I think I still have the link to the "official" Eduard tutorial), but never in conjunction with using the mineral spirits. Interesting! I wonder if the "odorless" variants would work similarly. Hmmmm. Great tutorial!

Yes this was the odorless version i used above. Strangely Eduard make no mention of these decals in their instructions which is why its taken me 4 years to even know these things existed despite building other Eduard kits during that time.

They did at one point in one of their monthly newsletters. Let me see if I can track it down!

Apparently any of the decals that have a production date after June 23, 2020 are the "new" style that will react like this.

That had a whole notebook full of Eduard’s in house decals. Carrier film was never mentioned. I had no idea.

Yeah, the first kit of theirs that I heard of these decals being part of was the new 1/48 Zero. So whenever that kit came out.

I just bought the Eduard Zero with the advanced kit (engine/flaps etc) because i am a sucker for punishment well I’ll be looking forward to that. I’ve always loved the zero and while I plan to build both my Eduard ones I am not going to do anything crazy with them. Lol

I know I am two months late to this thread but you have solved a major issue I have been having with Eduard lately. I was really struggling with the quality of their decals in their recent releases. I've been forking over cash for aftermarket decal sets. Thank you so much for this information! You've saved my sanity and my wallet with this information! Especially since easily a quarter of my stash are Eduard kits.
