I love this kit!! It was my first Bandai kit, and my first sci fi build. A great time to assemble and weather. Looking forward to seeing where you take it.

Well alrighty then!! I'll be watching in on this one as well. If this turns out even half as good as the rest of your work then it's going to be quite the show!!

What a great start in base paint work. This is pretty much how I approach all worn aircraft builds anymore with the warble pattern as a base. This is going to be pretty dang cool to watch come together.

I was about to write “Aw heck, do it like ILM did back in the day, with slobby dirty paint thinner washes!”, but Bandai’s plastic does not like that.
I did it that way back in 1980 with MPC’s X-Wing and it looked pretty good! One thing I only recently noticed was that ILM used the white primer undercoat for paint chips, not silver paint. It carries over to all their filming miniatures.

Excellent paint job... I love those templates that you can spray some pre-shading patterns!

What are you using for weathering on this? I’m using thinned oil paints and pigments.

Beautiful Xwing. I love watching the painting and weathering taking shape, you can see the model come to life through your pictures.

Perhaps "Marble Pattern" was intended but some sort of text "correction" programme inverted the "M"? Cheers, M

Nice!!! I liked the undercoat/basecoat, and particularly loved the weathering results…would love to see detailed step by steps on how you use the oils and pigments, particularly what brands; seeing the techniques and process used explained by fellow modelers make me a better modeler, and I am sure I am not alone in that, lol. Just beautiful work.

Joe, inspite of the misspelled word, I still have the same question, why do a marble pattern? I don't recall seeing anyone doing this on Armor models so I'm wondering about why it's done on aircraft. I'm going to do my first aircraft build for the 190GB and am trying to learn before I start.

Jeez..... .....I did mean Marble Pattern. Sorry Gang. Joe, inspite of the misspelled word, I still have the same question, why do a marble pattern? I don't recall seeing anyone doing this on Armor models so I'm wondering about why it's done on aircraft. I'm going to do my first aircraft build for the 190GB and am trying to learn before I start. I will throw my 2 cents in on this. In the case of the X wing the props in the movie were made to look beet on. Of source the Rebel Alliance didn't spend their down time sitting around polishing their fighters so the preshading is a good start on the weathering. The same applies to operational aircraft especially in WW2. As most photos are of course black and white it is had to see what shape the paint was in but odds are it was never very good even right out of the factory. No matter what side you were on those things were pumped out fast and likely did not look perfect right off the assembly line. Add in wear and tear from frequent use and they would look very shabby very fast. No doubt nobody cared what they looked like when the life expectancy of equipment could be measured in weeks. Preshading of any type just helps replicate that wear. Now this can be a very decisive topic in the modeling world as the dirty vs clean camps often duke it out. So many perfect model paint jobs are based on restored aircraft that were meticulously painted, DO get washed after every use (if they fly at all) and spend all their off time inside so they do not get the weathering that an operational plane would never see in it's short life.

That's really great, making them look like actual fighters instead of just toys.Love the weathering. Bandai really covered the whole spectrum of hobbyists with these Star Wars kits. They are pretty much snap together and have peel and stick stickers for the kid that wants a toy but they didn't skimp on detail and provide actual decals for the person that wants an actual model. I have build several different kits in the series and have never been disappointed yet.
