Here I come with all my ignorance into this August group, having finally mastered the difference between a Panther and a Panzer. I know little else about the subject so feel free to bring me up short when the gaffes ensue.
I spent a little time on interior colors, because the kit has a lot of interior detail, deciding that an ivory color might be appropriate for the crew compartment sides and top, with the bottom being a red brown similar to iron oxide, this too for all of the engine compartment, with the engine being semigloss black. I used Tamiya XF-64 red brown and Tamiya X-18 Semi-Gloss Black, and Model Master Light Ivory. For the transmission and drive shaft I used Model Master RLM 74, my guess for the grey green used in Panthers for drive train. The engine and transmisson are glued together in the pictures, the rest is just set in place. I got a set of 3D printed tracks I think for the Hobby Boss kit, I suspect they will work. I used HobbyBoss tracks on a Bandai T-34/76 that fit well. The instructions apparently have great color information, but being entirely in Japanese they don't seem to be helping much.

Wow. The old Bandai kit has an interior! The Tamiya I'm working on has...nothing. Advantage Bandai in that department!

Glad to see you in on the GB John. I had no idea that Bandai had 1/48 Panther with full interior. How cool is that! Great start on the interior. Looks terrific.

All those 1970s Bandai 1/48th had some sort of interior (usually rudimentary) even where it could not be seen on the completed model if built OOB. I've still got the engines from a Valentine, a Wespe and a M12 SPG in the bitz box... If you want to try a more recent 1:48th kit with an interior, the four Hobby Boss T-34s have a pretty comprehensive set of giblets and chitterlings... www.scalewarmachines.com/allcontent/t34-76-hobbybossCheers, M

I don't have any idea what's going on with these armor builds, but I am for sure enjoying following along. Looking forward to doing the same with this one.

I had a number of these old kits back in the day and they all had "full" interiors. I wouldn't say they were incredibly accurate but it was there. They also all had some very nice (by the standard of the day) figures that wouldn't look out of place with modern kits. Would love to grab a bunch of them now but of course they are rare and expensive.

I can't remember if any of my local club members hoovered them up or not!

Oh man I remember building that kit back in the day! Very nice project John! I am truly surprised that Bandai has not reissued their line of 1/48 armor kits and accessories with the rebirth of armor in that scale. The full interiors were ahead of their time. BTW, a Panther is a panzer... a Panzerkampfwagen V to be exact (the Tiger was a Panzer VI)

I've been collecting Bandai kits for many years, as to begin with they were the only choice for 1/48 in armor and I didn't want to start into 1/35 because I am mostly an aircraft builder. Here is what I have. Only a jeep or two and a T-34/76 have been built so far.
Type Name Manufacturer Model Mfg 155 MM M12 Gun Motor Carriage Bandai 37 MM Anti Tank Gun 37 MM Anti Tank Gun Various Bandai 75 MM Anti Tank Gun 75 MM Anti Tank Gun Various Bandai Ausf.GSd.Kfz.171 Panther Various Bandai Elefant Jagdpanzer Elefant Germany Bandai Figures Figures Various Bandai FLAK 18 German 88 Germany Bandai FLAK 18 German 88 Germany Bandai Flakpanzer IV Mobelwagen Germany Bandai German Infantry No.1 Figures Various Bandai German Infantry No.2 Figures Various Bandai German Infantry No.3 Figures Various Bandai German Sapper Figures Various Bandai GPW/MB Jeep Willys Bandai M4A1 Sherman GMC Bandai MB/GPW Jeep Willys Overland Bandai R/75 German Side Car BMW Bandai Sd. I've got the Bandai M4A3 76mm down in my pile with sealed bags, unstarted. If either of you guys needs/wants that one, I'd sell if for FAR less than Ebay rates! I thought I had more kits from that line, but my club members must have purchased them, and I forgot that they did.

All of the Panthers are part of the Panther GB! aha!! Using context clues, my feeble mind was able to sus that out. Other than that I am struggling to keep up. 😂

Thank you, my friend. I have been trying to keep up with the progress on everyone’s Panther’s. Such an impressive collection of amazing builders involved in the build. My comment was more based on me knowing absolutely zero about armor. The entirety of my armor knowledge was accrued from Kelly’s Heroes (very historical 😂) and a couple WW2 documentaries that touched on the Panzer divisions and Heinz Guderian.

This will be fun to watch alright. You've really gotta hand it to Bandai with some of their older offerings that had this much detail AND being in 1/48 scale. They held their own for a long time till some of these newer released kits from RFM and the like hit the scene. They still aint no slouch in the detailing department though. Progress is looking good so far John.

See, you already know more about tanks than you did when you started this
Your interior colors are just fine. Know, however, that it'll be awful dark inside when you join up the hull halves so unless you're gonna do a cutaway I'd not get too fussy with the insides.
Your aircraft skills, which I've noticed are top notch, will serve you well here this I think will be very nice when done

Ha ha, yeah, I'm an expert already! NOT! But thanks for the encouragement. I am slowed down because a seat bottom was missing and I am making a mold to cast a new one.

Slowly making progress, finally cast a seat after several attempts all of which failed because apparently my silicone mold components are too old. Finally just pressed the seat part into a blob of clay and dumped resin in that. Then I found another seat was missing. Scratched one out of plastic and the glue is curing on that one now. There have been a lot of interruptions, had some minor surgery and have been doing dirt work at the R/C flying field with a big front end loader. Then there has been getting the new garage set up for a Christmas gathering we are having this weekend. Don't worry, the modelling apparatus will soon reappear in this space! More progress on the Panther should soon ensue!

Finally back to this one. i started trying to put together the 3d printed tracks i had for it and about 50% them were breaking, you were supposed to snap each individual link to the next one. Maybe they would work if I warmed them up, but it wasn't any fun so I set them aside. I found another set of tracks that are printed in runs, hopefully I will have better luck with them. I did more assembly of the Bandai parts, so here is where I am now. Probably should have bought a Hobby Boss kit for the tracks like I did for the Bandai T-34 I built before.

Never seen printed track runs before. Are they a heat up and wrap around deal?

No, they are individual links that are printed assembled and are much freer to move than the Fruil tracks I used on a 1/35 M74 in the past. They are pretty amazing. It took me maybe 2 minutes to free them from the supports, they just snapped off. These guys definitely know what they are doing.

Looking good John! The hatch interior faces should match the hull exterior base color.. depending upon the production date that would be Dark Yellow, Primer Red, or Olive Green...
