Tamiya 1/35th Flak 37

After 25 years hiatus from Military Modelling I am back and hooked. I dug this kit out the loft so here is my progress so far.

Here is the crew, they will be set in a Diorama deploying the gun.

In my opinion, this is one of the great Tamiya classic kits. It isn't a complex or hard build unless you choose to add PE and other detailing, even then, it's not all that difficult.

I have the exact same build sitting on the shelf almost at the same stage of completion as yours. I am using the same PE set and have been adding additional details with styrene.

Yours looks more detailed than mine. Very nice job.

I really like where this is headed Stuart. You took an already good kit and you're turning into a mini-masterpiece with all the additional detail items. This is going to be a good build to follow.

Here is the composition of the crew team that are pushing the gun carriage away from the gun. The other half the team will be levelling and staking the gun ready for action. The third figure at the back still has arms and head to be added...

Very nice! That is some great work repositioning the figures to give them the emplacing of the gun activities.

That is indeed some good figure manipulation to go with that artillery piece. Keep this stuff coming as it's fun to watch come together Stuart.

Another small update on the crew composition:

As I am going to have the diorama set in Italy late 1943 I am going to change the foot wear on some of the crew to ankle boots with gaiters. from my research a mix of foot wear was common around that time with some troops still in jack boots.

Here is a good contrast photo, one leg still to be modified. The ankle boots and gaiters are made using Apoxie Scuplt, I am really please with the detail you can get on the boots with this putty.

I have returned to the 88 and gun carriages. Installed the pick axe and sledge hammer tool mounts. All scratch built as Tamiya do not provide these in the kit. You can also see I scratch built the seat as the Tamiya supplied part looked nothing like the photos of the real seat fitted. The mount for the axe and shovel to added next, these will also need to be scratch built.
