Here is yet another Shelf Queen rescued from oblivion by this forum. This is the old 21st Century Toys kit from their brief venture into models. It is based upon their pre assembled and painted 1/18 Ultimate Solder line. More on the base kit here (no sense rewriting what exists) www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/21c/kit_21c_22105.shtmlI picked this kit up at Walmart in 2007 when I was just starting to get back into modeling. It is actually very nicely detailed for what it is but I got frustrated trying to fill the plug holes for the screws you are supposed to use to assemble it and it went to the shelf. They don't bother me anymore so it should make another quick project.

I never even knew that these kits existed. I remember the Ultimate Soldier line up alright as I wanted their Fw 190D-9 but never knew that they made model kits as well. This is awesome......TWO great Stuka builds going on at the same time!!!

Well one great Stuka build and this one. They made a small experiment in the 1/32 line with a half dozen unbuilt versions. Don't think they lasted long or went much outside Walmart in the US. I think they mostly retailed for $8 to $10 back then. I Built the Corsair but never managed to snag any of the rest. There was a Zero Two different versions of the BF-109 And a Veltro Folgore I know they made at least a Mustang and Spitfire (there could be others) in the pre assembled and painted versions but don't think they every released them as kits. I don't know but do suspect that the initial run sold to Walmart was all they ever did since once they sold out they were never seen again.

Bookmarked! Looks good so far. Nice work on the figures They still need a bit more highlights to show up through the canopy but I am surprised at how good they look since it was fairly early in my return to the hobby when I did them. It helps that they are REALLY nicely sculpted for being part of an $8 kit.

I am curious to see how this builds up. I remember these being on the shelves briefly. Build on! It is sort of a mixed bag. The plastic is not normal styrene and quite possibly ABS. Was going to fold the wings to make a Graf Zeppelin plane but it is difficult enough to get the parts glued to each other much less trying to get scratch built wing fold mechs on there. All the parts are already off any sprues and come packaged in little bags. The canopy is also off any sprues and whoever cut them off at the factory did a sloppy job so there are some light chips in the edges. The framing is a bit heavy but again some paint should deal with that. Parts such as the machine gun are just one piece things but are decently molded and look OK. Panel lines are a bit heavy but should calm down under paint. All the wing and fuselage seams closed up almost on their own but the wing roots are putting up a fight. The cockpit/ginner positions are almost completly devoid of detail but there is enough to look busy with figures. Without figures it would need a lot of work to fill the space. On the "probably my fault" front the tail wheel is missing but apparently I knew that as I have a random one from something in the box. Probably a cat thing. Also missing the wing light but that is easy to do anyway All in all it will build up to something that at least looks like a Stuka.

Looking forward to watching this one. Won't be my usual number of pictures since it is too big to fit the lightbox beside my chair and I would actually have to walk across the room to take them. I am far too lazy for that right now.

Man those kits were worth their sticker price for the decal sheets alone... This should be a good one to watch.

This is gonna be a big girl. Watching.... It is large. I have no idea where I will put it when done. All masked up and ready for the paint booth.

I remember when I was in Dallas and I went to Phils Hobbies (when it used to be located there) and saw Heller's 1/24 scale Stuka up on the shelf. I can't imagine how much space something of that size would take up.......let alone something like this. I wouldn't have any place to put a 1/32nd scale Stuka either.

Well this almost ended up back on the shelf of doom. Had an old bottle of Model Master acrylic pale blue that is very close to RLM 65 Hellblau that looked 100% fine. Thinned it with my normal Tamiya lacquer thinner (I use this on all paints regardless of type) and all looked good. Started spraying and paint was drying before it hit the model. It was a gloopy mess. I didn't panic, finished painting as it was, and then took a big gamble and sprayed the whole bottom with a shot of straight hardware store lacquer thinner. Not hugely vested in this kit so it was a make or break hail Mary play. It worked and all the big globs settled down to a nice, reasonably flat finish.

Ell I went from near disaster with the blue to probably the best coat of paint I ever sprayed with the dunkelgrün.

about 200 feet of masking tape... Resulted in Still a bit of bleed through clean up but I am happy. Underneath pretty much ready for weathering.

A little bit of grime has done it well. I like where you're headed on this as well.

A little bit of grime has done it well. I like where you're headed on this as well. I would normally leave Luftwaffe aircraft pretty clean but pictures of these things in action almost all show them really beat. Don't know if it was because of heavy use, they spewed oil and smoke more than the rest or they just didn't get the lovin' the fighters got.

Are you sure it was 200 feet of masking tape? Sure looks like 500 feet instead. The camo came out great!! Now you can re-use those tapes to wrap the gifts if you are clever. 🤣

Looking better and better... Since the Stuka's on the Russian front operated from some pretty "austere" airfields, are you going to give a bit of mud and/or dust weathering around the landing gear?

Yep. Bit on the tires and spats, some sprayed across the belly from the prop wash and loads around the tail wheel to hide the fact it is not the right one.
