Well guys, I have the hull all finished and ready for oil caning! Then I’ve just done a bunch of miscellaneous stuff as I wait for things to dry and then sand and then dry, so I’m partway done with the island as well. And I started on some of the cat walks, and all of the crazy pin marks that needed finished. When you first started this and I saw that it was a Trumpter kit, I just knew you had to be in for a ride as far as injector pin marks were concerned. I have no doubt that you'll handle these in good fashion but dang.......would've been alot nicer without all that to contend with. Nonetheless.......your attention to the details on this are second to none Chris and are a true testament to your building capabilities and skillsets. Knockin' it dead with this one brother.

I've read through this twice now and it blows my mind! There is so much going on, it's nearly unbelievable. This is whole next level stuff!

Bloody hell Chris, I just don't know what to say. Simply stunned. I saw the Kitty during RIMPAC 75. I was starboard lookout on the Hobart, (DDG), and she ran up lights saying ship not under control. My report certainly got the bosses attention, but it was quickly sorted as we were sailing very close!! Turns out it was an incorrect signal, but as the tip of our mast didn't even reach halfway up her side, it was an anxious few minutes.

You haven't built any of the hangar bay detail yet and this is already so very nicely detailed. This build is just a joy to watch come together!

She's starting to get the proper level of girth for a dingy her size. Stellar work on this.

You're scaring me Chris, next thing you'll be doing is attempting to sail her. I see a Mr. Burns moment coming, " Smithers, get aboard the Spruce Moose and fly me to the powerplant" deep end brother DEEEEEP END.

wow thanks guys, you really have me laughing! love the Spruce Moose and many thanks for the accolades Joe! Dodgy that had to be a little scary in that dingy (to quote brandon) you were in! I've been on the old WW2 carriers and they are small compared to these behemoths. Always amazes me the things we can build. Hard to fathom what it takes to organize and put it all together...the bill is always over budget tho! Doing some work travel this week so she'll be sitting in drydock till the weekend. hopefully my paint will arrive while I'm out of town but I'm not hopeful since it has to go ground. I'll probably work on the island start detail painting the hangar bay walls. I primered them this weekend and layed everything out for fit. till next time

I'm looking forward to watching the "oil canning" process. I have a sidelined ship project that I want to try that technique out on, is I will be paying attention to how you do yours.

Ok guys, I’m going to have to utilize the 3yr timeframe on this GB for an interruption 🤣 IPMS and MRC (Model Rectifier Corporation) have sent me the new USS Midway 1/350 model by Trumpeter! I’ll post it up as soon as it’s finished and then get back on this one…I’ll probably do the hull at the same time so there should at least be an interim update. 🍿🥤

What excites me most about this thread is that I ordered the same kit and 3D-Wild hanger bay last week before I even found this thread. I'm very excited to see how your progresses.

What excites me most about this thread is that I ordered the same kit and 3D-Wild hanger bay last week before I even found this thread. I'm very excited to see how your progresses. Knowing that I’m going to post this up just for you swamp fox 🍻 I’ve been working the hangar bay on the sidelines because of the work it needed so hadn’t posted it yet, not ready for prime time. Let me say 1st that 3D Wild and Small Designer have been absolutely great to work with! There are 2 things for you to check as soon as your parts arrive, including the kit. 1. The first bow i received was warped. It caused about an 1/8” twist in the walls. Pic included below. It’s a large solid part so this can happen. 3D Wild replaced it with no problems, no cost. Very responsive. 2. Small Designer had an 8mm error in the length of the starboard forward side wall. It was too long and overlapped the #1 elevator. He has since made a change to the files so yours should arrive ok. He fixed this about a month ago based on the layout i sent him. The one thing we are still debating is the length of the forward port wall. I think it’s too long, he thinks it’s ok. It’s close enough that I’ll actually have to glue in the #4 elevator and the midships wall before we’ll be able to break the tie in opinions. With my pause on the model right now this will have to wait for a conclusion. On a positive note if it is off the extra length can be cut off in the area where it mounts to the bow section so it won’t be noticeable but if that’s the case i’ll get him the info to make changes.

One other note i just remembered. Small Designer said if I’m not keeping these out of the light to primer them right away so they wouldn’t shrink or warp. They are all primered black now 👍 The details and quality of printing ar tops. This will be so nice compared to the scratch built hangar bay i did for the Enterprise. Definitely worth the money for quality and big time savings.

I think what I'm liking most about this (aside from the build itself) is the fact that the vendor is working hand in hand with you on making his product better and to provide you a better experience. This one is coming together exceptionally well Chris.

No, I’m 2/3rds done with the Midway though so i figure after NATS I’ll be back on it. I’m doing a seminar on masking design with the silhouette at NATS as well so I’ve started the build for that and am putting together the presentation for it now. Between summer activities, a busy work schedule and modeling it’s going to be an insane couple months for me!

If the planets align just right I want to make it to Nats this year. If so I will be searching for your seminar for sure! I'll be looking forward to seeing this when you can breath again
