I finally got back to working on this. The rear suspension lower control arm doesn't have a way to locate it to the axle/upright. So I taped the pieces down to hold them while the J-B weld hardened. I also got some pieces painted and sub-assemblies done. 699

Nice model Paul, not many parts, but that is not always necessary to create something beautiful.

Wonderful work on the suspension and drivers tub! Great to see you working on this one again!! Thank you Brent. Once the suspension was sorted, I jigged the wheels up square. And I got the body sprayed with Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red 797

Cool idea with wheel jig… especially for open wheel race cars.

Excellent. Love the bright red. Good way to make sure the wheels are straight for sure. I use a couple of 6” squares so similar idea.

I've not seen a jig set up like that to make sure everything is square Paul. Good thinkin' on that!!

I'm really liking the color on this Thanks Brent Cool idea with wheel jig… especially for open wheel race cars. Thanks. Fortunately the wheels were small enough to use those squares. Excellent. Love the bright red. Good way to make sure the wheels are straight for sure. I use a couple of 6” squares so similar idea. Thanks Kyle. I'll need to find larger squares for my 1/12th scale cars I've not seen a jig set up like that to make sure everything is square Paul. Good thinkin' on that!! Thanks Joe. I used the lines on the cutting mat to help keep things straight. The tedious process of decals begins. I'm only doing one or two at a time so the decals have time to dry and set in place. 951

That huge decal over detail must have been challenging to get to lay out the way you wanted. Looking great so far

What a fantastic and unique subject. Thanks Dan. Mickey Thompson was quite the innovator. Beautiful work Paul!! That’s really looking great. The decals will pull this together nicely. Thanks Kyle That huge decal over detail must have been challenging to get to lay out the way you wanted. Looking great so far Thanks Brent. It was a challenge. Especially since they were Indycals. The whole sheet has carrier on it, so you have to trim very close to the decal. All of the decals are on the car. I've decided to do something I don't normally do. I'm going to clear coat it. 1033

Coming a long nicely! Great looking decals. I've got a couple sets of Indycals in the stash but have yet to use them. I am used to continuous film decals from DRAW though.

I like Michael’s decals but I do know that they can be a pain. Some people don’t like them at all. I’ve used them so many times i’m desensitized to the carrier film. Beautiful work on some tricky decals. I don’t envy you the process of getting those on. It looks awesome!!

I misted on 2 coats of Testor's Glosscote, then did a semi-wet coat. After it dried the decals had these ridges in them. I tried to use some Solvaset on them, but it just messed with the clear. The only way to fix it would have been to strip and do a re-paint and new decals. I decided I have enough kits to do and to use this as a learning experience, so I pushed on. Windshield and interior are in. 1117

Oh noooooo! Sorry that happened Paul. Would this be a reaction from the decal on the paint? Or the clear over the decal? What about this stuff? Its really strong. I tried using it for my first decal attempt it was too much so I tore the tiny decals. Maybe its the strength you need?

You'd have to slice the ridges and apply softener - still might not work given the clear coats. Bummer!

Well it still looks great! Nice work on the windshield. Always tricky on these. Going to be a really cool one to have on the shelf. Thanks Kyle. The windshield was tricky and not as good as I would like. Oh noooooo! Sorry that happened Paul. Would this be a reaction from the decal on the paint? Or the clear over the decal? What about this stuff? Its really strong. I tried using it for my first decal attempt it was too much so I tore the tiny decals. Maybe its the strength you need? James, I think it was a reaction by the decal to the clearcoat. I've used Mr.Mark Softener before. I think Solvaset might be a tad stronger. You'd have to slice the ridges and apply softener - still might not work given the clear coats. Bummer! The Solvaset started attacking the clear coat, so I dabbed it off with a q-tip. Not a contest contender, but looks great from a distance. And just like that, we have a completion. 1170

What an absolute stunner!! I love absolutely any Indy car having grown up there at the track. The red you went with really stands out and the decals look fantastic despite the issues. She’ll be a beauty on the shelf.

It's a shame the decals reacted to the clear but it's still a gorgeous build!

It's a shame that the decals didn't work as they should, but it still turned out to be a nice model
