Finished: Airfix 1:24 Spitfire Mk IXc

G'day

One of the current builds that keeps me busy, is the 1:24 Airfix Spitfire. 
The cockpit is done and sandwiched in the hull. The wings are also attached. 
Now busy with the engine and mount...

   The Mk IXc is my favorite mark Spit. Heard really good things about this boxing. Looks like your well on your way to a beautiful build.

I spiced up the office with the quinta set... It certainly is a great upgrade!

The engine mount is added to the airframe...

The engine is on its mount. I tried to give the lettering on the engine the indicated red colour, but could not succeed. Therefor I decided to simply paint it black...

That's alot of detail packed into that engine bay Erwin and it's all painted up very well at that. I've built one 1/24 scale aircraft since my return to the hobby and I had a great time doing it as there was so much detail to it. Looking forward to seeing more progress on this jewel of a build.

 The Trumpeter Bf109. I built it in 2012 I think and it was for a group build that was going on over at FSM at the time.

I dunno what I did wrong!
The cowls do not fit as they should. 
I took extra care that the mounting frame was inserted as far as possible?

Yikes! It could just be the age of the molds… that is an older kit in origins.

The 1/24? This one is brand new as of 2023, unfortunately!

I hope you're able to figure out what went wrong - I'm not this far into my build yet.

Ok… I was thinking it was evolved from their old Mk.I/Mk.V kit.

The only thing I can think off is that the lower connection points of the mounting frames are not inserted far enough, because of which the alignment of the whole is at the wrong angle...

With quite some work (some destructive and much more repairs) I managed to get the cowl plates fit properly.
This is what it looks now...

Looks like you're beating this one into some good submission Erwin. I've had builds like this that I must've test fitted things a million times on, only to have 'em not fit right on the "day of reckoning". Way to hang with it bud.

406 Silverado  You got that beating part nearly right: I tried to see if the engine could be coaxed so that the plates would fit, which ended with a great crunch! Not only did the engine mount break, but also several ducts and the mounting frames for the cowling plates were broken and twisted... I managed to get it all in place again, but had to extend one of the engine mount frames with evergreen to get it all to fit. Of course on the side I left open!

Of course it is always with these things that it won't be noticed until so many steps further in the build that dry fitting it pointless  as it cannot be seen in an earlier phase...

Looks like you got it handled great even with the multi part failure during manipulation. The old "if it can go wrong it will" fitment problem
