I think these wrecks would fit better than this kit. Unfortunately, this kit is too big for a dio. I'll get it whipped into shape, but there will be some eye rolling and head shaking and most likely HEAT involved.

OMG !!! How did I NOT see this before?
I talked nice to her, I bought her drinks and she was really starting to come around to my ideas.
However, I seem to have overlooked an important piece or two, or 5 of this kit. Like the ENTIRE NOSE of the aircraft.
145, 146, 147, 148, 149 are no where to be found. I could have sworn I had those. Good grief!! Okay, well it's back on the box while I figure out/decide what I'm going to do. I was actually making good headway as well. DANGIT !!!

Oh man. I just got through looking up the panels on ebay hoping to find a good deal and you'd be better off purchasing another kit as between the 3 engine panels alone you're lookin' at over $60 and that's before tax. The only other thing that you could ponder is that Jeremy (fermis) I think has one of these kits still. Hope you get it all sorted out as I'm looking forward to watching you build this one Brandon.

That second photo has got to be a movie prop! I thought that too. The pilot looks very out of place and fake to my eyes.

Okay, now that I have kicked both dogs and yelled at the wife I looked in my 1/24 P-51 kit and guess what I found? Just kiddin' about yelling at the wife, I'm not suicidal.
Crisis over, moving on...

The order of operations for assembly on this ill fitting kit has been tossed out the window and I am pressing on with getting things to fit correctly. I am gaining ground on the pit work as well as the engine and nose assembly. This won't take long to put together, but cleaning up the parts will take some time.
I glued up the pit floor and its parts and then added the parts to the side fuselage rather than to the floor as the instructions would like. It fits and looks far better this way. I attached the front bulkhead to the floor and have it drying in the fuselage to make sure everything is where it belongs before I go to paint everything. I can see I'll need a small amount of scratch work to fill in some gaps and holes, but nothing to awful.

Well since that crisis was averted I have moved on to more assembly, or repeated dry fitting until I get assembly. Anyway, I was missing half of a tube and this part will be seen from underneath through the radiator opening so I had to come up with something. Here is a pic of the part.
Part #22 or half a tube. Not something that lends itself to easy scratch building.
Basically I needed to create the other side of this... Then I had an idea. How about trying some UV resin and run a bead along the part and harden it up. So I gave it a go. Here is the result.
And when viewed from the side, it is a perfect match. Problem solved. Man this stuff is great to work with.
Total time to work this up, about 5 min. Awesome!!

Wow that worked out pretty well, Brandon! That UV resin must be pretty thick? On a sidenote, I love that you’re doing this build. This would almost be the holy Grail nostalgia built for me. I might have to grab this kit one day. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

That is some pretty ingenious scratchwork! It looks fantastic!
