Andy I think it may be the oldest, the first of these flew the year I was born I believe


I'll try to record this one in more detail for those interested

Wheel wells and cockpit primed, painted, and assembled. Academy gives you a very nice bomb bay full of bombs but after some consideration I decided to close it up 'cause it would disappear like the landing gear and wheel wells when the fuselage halves are joined. The model sits too low to see under it also.

They closed up quite well however



The joint is neary flawless, excellent fit



Fit of the transparent part is also excellent



Academy gives you cockpit masks in the kit. They're tiny but the molding of the windscreen area is sharp and crisp; you can see what you're doing. This makes the masking easy



I've run into a so-so fit spot and this would be engine pylon to wing. Careful dry fitting and trimming is needed here, I chose to rework the mounting holes in the underwing. So far this has been very nice despite the previous statement.

The leading edge on both wings did not line up quite right, leaving a step. A couple passes with a scraper and some 400 grit cures this problem, here I've done a portion of the right wing



Have to clean up the fuselage joint and stick a few more things on and it'll be primer time





Even in 1/144 this is a fairly big model and the long wings would make it clumsy to handle in the spray booth. Therefore I'm gonna paint the fuselage and wings seperatley, something I've never done before, as the wing to fuselage fit is most excellent.

Looks like a nice little kit. I have the old AMT 1/72 kit but it is so big there is no place to display it when built so may go for one of these.

In 1/48th, it's still a big kit, and I remember doing one many moons ago, Ruck On!

I built a 1/72 Monogram kit and converted it to an "H" variant (yes it was HUGE). This kit has a vast amount of detail in it compared to that. This is coming along great so far!

Hey Res are you going to do something to droop the wings? Looks like they are molded on the straight, in flight condition. There is quite a difference.

So many, and I mean SO MANY, planes have come and gone over the years, yet the Buff remains..All hail the Buff !!

Iconic to be sure, and a product Boeing did quite well unlike today according to many sources.

So a side trip, I've been looking for one of those 1/72 Academy B-50's for some time now just because it's unusual. Finally found one, they wanted $80 for the kit which made me squirm a bit but I sez OK. Come checkout time I find they want $35 for shipping which made me do more than squirm so I sez NO. Perhaps Academy will re-release it while I'm still young enough to build it

Found that B-50, a little shop in Tennessee, coming to my door for less than the eighty the other outfit wanted just for the kit. Seems there's some folks out there who aren't scalpers.

I'm using Mission Models Gunship Grey. Mission Models is the weirdest paint I've ever tried to use, it lays down wonderfully and then dries blotchy I have no idea why. A second coat should fix the blotchy problem I think. If I'm still awake at ten or so tonight I'll find out

I’d say that they’re good, but not great. With so many current options available, you can find whatever colors that you need that from other paint lines.
