I went to my first show since about 2020, (or the start of covid). This show hasn't been run for the last 9 years since the principal organiser died of cancer. Ironically the show always donated to Canassist, a support network for cancer sufferers and survivors. Anyway, a couple of guys, disgruntled with the way their club were running things, decided to revamp it in honour of the previous organiser. Expectations were for a small turnout of 100 to 150 models but just shy of 300 turned up on the day. I managed to pick up a first in Sci Fi for Boba Fetts Slave1, a first in dioramas for my AC Mack logger and second in Military over 1:35 scale for my Australian Army Diamond Reo prime mover. I"ll have to find a fresh photo of the Reo.

Congratulations, Marc! 👏 That's quite a showing, well done for sure! 👍 I entered an armor build contest many years ago with the only two tanks I had finished at the time. Nobody was more shocked than me when they each took 3rd place in their categories. It was fun. 😊

Congrats on the show wins guys! Nothing but great builds here. Don't know if I'll make any shows this year but that just means more builds to bring to the next one. Stay safe. Jim

Back in the day we used to have an annual, ongoing thread where MSCers could post their contest wins. It was pretty amazing to see the amount of hardware a sizable bunch of dedicated modelers could pull in! I'll start. I don't get to go to as many shows every year as I used to, but I try to make it to at least my "local" (so, a three hour drive each way) one, Downeastcon, and build accordingly. This year's edition was on Sunday. I entered 14 builds in 14 categories - both 1/2/3 and G/S/B - and came home with 12 awards. 10 of which came from builds in my 2024 build thread! I was super happy with the results. Having MSC back has done wonders for my output. Hope it's here to stay! That's awesome! Congratulations!

Hey all, Today I went to NorthShoreCon in Peabody, MA. It's a small, local show, but MAN... it was FUN. Peabody is a cool little town. The venue is great (for the size of the show). North Shore Scale Modelers put on a great event! I entered 9 models in 5 different categories: 2 each in: Military Vehicles, all types, all eras, 1/72 and smaller Military Vehicles, all types, all eras, 1/48 Vignetters And then solos builds in: Aircraft, single engine, prop 1/48 Gundam Dioramas I walked away with three medals: 2 first place and 1 third place: 1st place for 1/48 military vehicles 1st place for Gundam (in fairness, there were three builds, so... take that for what it is...) 3rd for Dioramas. Here are the winning builds (sorry for the mediocre quality of the photos): 1/48th military vehicles: Panther D: Kursk Gundam RX77D Dioramas: The Mechanic: Hungarian 38(t) To top it all off, there is a COOL, old school model train and hobby store in Peabody, about two blocks from the venue. It is called North East Trains, and MAN... being in there was like being in the hobby shop I hung out in as a kid. It is one of those places where they have a random assortment of stuff, and it is tucked into every nook and cranny. If you are ever in Peabody MA, check it out, you will NOT be disappointed!!

Whoah, sweet! I remember that 38(t) dio. Excellent haul! Yeah, I love that build. This is the 4th or 5th award it has gotten, so I'll retire it now.

I gave a thumbs up when I first saw this post and thought I'd commented but.....obviously not. lol Looks like you racked up the awards at that show and had a good time to boot! I really enjoy walking into hobby stores like the one you've described and just looking around. Like you.....it reminds me of the old days. Congratulations on the awards Dave.

Anyone else been to any fall shows? I got to get out of town last weekend to get to Granitecon in New Hampshire. Had a very respectable showing: Most of these are from my completed builds thread from the first half of this year, with a few from 2023. The 37 Ford Coupe and 1/48 Panther G continue to do well. Solid turnout with some tough competition in some categories (24 entries in 1/48 single prop! 15 in 1/32 props!). It feels like the quality is getting better all the time.

I’m going to a show this weekend but I won’t be bringing any builds. Working nights means getting up late and being lucky to even making it before registration closes. Just going to enjoy everyone else’s work. Congrats on some more hardware Marc!!

Congratulations to all of you on your success, some excuisite builds there. I used to do comps, both entering and judging, but things began getting political and petty and the atmosphere changed, so haven't entered anything in years. At the time I did pretty well, even picked up a 'best of show' at the Nat's with a 76th scale Morris C8. Now I go once every 3 or 4 years to look and check out the swap meet. There are no clubs nearer than 4 hours drive and none of my mates build, so modelling wise, it's a pretty isolated thing.

Your stuff is too good NOT to enter.

Solo, isolated modeling sounds like it what it always used to be like in the old days! Luckily, now you have an internet club to model with.
