Good morning all So as you may have seen, after 8 years and 3 months I have finally finished this little kitty.ย I was inspired to get this across the line having recently finished my Jagdpanthers. This was indirectly linked to a dual build I was doing with another member at the time.ย ย The idea was to take one of these super simplified wargaming kits - ยฃ7.50 for two kits, a whole tank on each sprue and with only 20 pieces per tank - and 'tart' them up. To this aim I did the following: - Drilled out the solid one piece suspension.
- Added a range of handles using nylon broom bristles.....a very underrated modelling medium IMHO.
- Created the impression of zimmerit using 'No More Nails' glue and a 32 TPI junior hacksaw blade to create the effect.
- Using print screen mesh for the engine deck covers.
- Scratched all of the gun rest, brackets and almost all the tools using styrene.
- Changed the design on one of the rear stowage bins from a cross to straight lines, as per the reference photo.
- Scratched square exhaust mounting 'blocks' (don't know the correct name)....the kit came with round ones but again the reference photo showed square.
- Added my own tow cable.....slightly too thick a gauge in hindsight but it was the best I had at the time.
- Added some stowage....both bought and DIY.
The tracks are thoughย far too rusty.ย However, at the time I did them I was playing with Life Colors rust and dust set and so as this is not a 'display' piece, I used this and a whole range of other kits to experiment with. As I said on the build thread this won't set the modelling world alight but just remember that when I started this I was a far less experienced modeller than I am now.......it has been eight years after allย .... .....and most importantly it started life aย quick build wargaming kit with no detail to speak of, which only cost ยฃ3.75 new!! The build thread can be found here:ย modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/10832/panther-cuckoo-trial-camo-decalsACW as usual. Andrew --------------------------------------------------------------------- The initial sprue shot as reminder of how it started: The finished article: And the obligatory scale shot!

Wow, I didnt realize the small size until your last photo haha. Great job on those wheels, that part couldnt have been easy even on a bigger scale. Nice job!

You captured a great weathered look even at this small scale. Your added zimmerit looks fantastic. Congrats getting it over the finish line!

I just love these small scale builds Andrew. This one is loaded with all kinds of eye candy with the paint and details too. I'm with Carlos....is that Zimmerit added or was it molded like that?

You do a great job on that small scale armor I just love these small scale builds Andrew. This one is loaded with all kinds of eye candy with the paint and details too. I'm with Carlos....is that Zimmerit added or was it molded like that? Thanks chaps. Glad you like it. I'm pretty pleased with it considering the base kit. Joe, Carlos - it's my own DIY Zimmerit....as follows: - Give the flat surfaces a sand with a fairly coarse sandpaper to roughen the surface.
- Smooth over a very thin coat of a DIY glue called 'No More Nails'.
- Using a 32 teeth per inch hacksaw blade scribe the pattern.
I got the idea from a YouTube video - see this link to the build thread. The glue is fantastic. It dries well and hard, and adheres very well and yet it responds well to TET to glue on styrene. Below are few example shots pre painting....just bear in mind I hadn't tidied up the rough parts. Thanks again. Andrew

Excellent job ๐. Really like the zimmerit. Do you get good work time with the No More Nails glue? Mike Thanks very much. I was pretty pleased with the zimm effect, even if not 100% realistic. And yes, I get plenty of working time with it, and if it's a bit gloopy in places or goes over an edge it's very easy to trim with a knife! Thanks again chaps! ATB Andrew
