okay another hint. This ship first appeared in 1972. This is the first and best version of this ship. There were a total of three versions of it - each drastically different in look from the previous version.

All I can think of for 1972 is the Icarus from the Planet of the Apes and there ain't no way that is it! Trying not to cheat and look it up.

I doubt this is right, but it is probably that Tyrollian(?) transport from Star Wars that as the high fin and two folding ones that open out into a three-pointed star. I don't remember the star wars name for it.

OK - last hint - the show originally aired in Japan before coming to the US in 1978. The ship could travel in air & water.
