This AMT kit is my next build. My grandsons got this for me for Father's Day. This is a retooled kit and looking at the video by the HPI Guys, its a nice kit with no fitment issues. A trailer is also included. So the grandsons did good! There are no color call outs on the instruction sheet so I am on my own. The exteriors are predominantly all 1 color but there are a few two-tones so I think I will probably two-tone this one. Not sure what color yet but I've done a lot of blue and green lately so maybe red and cream will be the colors. Thanks for looking! 😎

Jeez.....I don't think I've ever seen this kit JR. Come to think of it......I don't think I've seen one of these trucks on the road for a LONG time now. Used to see them everywhere growing up as a kid.

Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments!
I've been working on prepping everything for paint and thought I would stick a six cyl. in it. But trying to find a 60-ish Ford six is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Kitchen Table Resins used to have six cylinder engines but the website says out of business, although they still have engines for sale but the price is $19 plus shipping. The kit engine is not very good with a tri-carb setup, which seems a little unrealistic to me. I'm tempted to use the 60 Chevy six from the truck kit in this one. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks, Tcoat and Moparman! I appreciate your suggestions. I had the suggestion about the VCG Ford 240/300 on another website so I went ahead and bit the bullet and purchased it. I think it will look a lot better with a nice six in it. I have decided on colors and I'll use Dupli-Color Dark Toreador Metallic and Pure White to look something like this:

Thanks, Kyle and Handlabled! I appreciate your comments! Well, I have never has so many paint issues on any one model in my life that I can remember. Tape bleed-throughs, crooked tape lines, tape tears in the paint (see photo), etc. But finally all the painting is done! Now, I get to rub everything out. Fortunately, it won't take much as the Dupli-Color paint and the Krylon Clear lacquer went on pretty smoothly. It was difficult to eliminate all the high and low paint areas in the bed of the truck and on the multiple surfaces on the trailer but I finally got everything ironed out. I did see a nice tip on the HPI Guys video for the wheels. If you clip off the tabs on the wheels, you can save your fingers from a lot of pain. Thanks for looking! 😎

Lots of model companies going crazy with those wheel tabs for no reason. I’ve chopped them off a few companies kits and the wheels always fit plenty snug. Great update. Still love the colors. Sorry you had the issues but nice work getting through them.

Thanks, Kyle! I appreciate your comments! I finished the interior and the cab with no issues. The windows fit well, interior plugs right into the body and hood fits well. I used a thin strip of foil as a paint divider and you can't really see it but it makes the separation cleaner. And lo and behold - the six cyl. came today! I didn't order it until Thursday last week and it already has arrived! It was packaged nicely and looks very good. Josh added a few extra parts since its my first purchase. Its very nice and looks ready to paint! Thanks for looking! 😎

Nice!! That is all looking excellent. I have a couple of engines from VCG as well. Nice stuff. That’ll be the perfect engine for the truck and will look great

Thanks, Kyle! I appreciate your comments! There was an issue with the length of the motor fitting into the engine bay but I solved it. I removed the radiator core in the center of the radiator support. I then cut a thin piece of sheet styrene, painted it black and then glued the radiator face to it. The grill/headlight assembly still fits, the fender receivers for the pins in the chassis are still there and the engine, transmission, fan belt and fan still fit lengthwise with the valve cover in place. Its not a dessert radiator but a radiator is still in place! I didn't need to hack up the firewall but I did have to cut the chassis a little deeper for the transmission. Now all I have to do is add a couple of 3/8" lengths of square rod to fit under the motor mounts. They won't actually support the engine as the center piece is still there for the metal axle. I am not concerned how it will look from underneath because this is a one piece chassis with everything molded in, including two tailpipes. So I'll just use a piece of radiator hose to hook up one of the tailpipes to the exhaust manifold. It will look OK from the top and I am not even going to paint any detail underneath as it is a waste of time. Nobody will see the chassis, not even in a contest as they only check wheel an tire alignment and don't touch the models. at least for the contest that I go to. Here are some photos. Thanks for looking! 😎

Nice solution. Inline 6 always looks awesome in a pickup.

Great work on getting the engine to fit how it needs to. And I agree. In-line 6 in a pickup is always the right look

Thanks, John and Kyle! I appreciate your comments! I worked with Josh Reese of VCG Resins via e-mail to identify a few pieces I wasn't completely sure about and he sent me photos of the parts I didn't recognize and how they went on the engine. So, with a little help, I painted this 6 cyl. in the colors for 1960 - Black, red, and red with some silver and white for certain parts. I assembled it with the help from Josh and here it is! I added some plug wires. Done! Now it should mount in the frame as I have added the square block for the motor mounts. Now all I have to do is bend some 2" radiator hose for the tailpipe connection and paint it silver. I will also create a top hose for the radiator. Thanks for looking! 😎

This came along nicely. Two tone looks great. Josh does put out a quality product and his menu of items keeps expanding. I am trying to get him to print M/T valve covers for sb Mopar.

Man I hate when I have painting blues like that JR but it looks like you got 'em all sorted out. Great tip on the wheels and speaking of wheels ....those look GORGEOUS!!! Interior is well done and that engine is a frickin' masterpiece. GREAT score on that and makes all the difference in that engine bay.
What a build thread this is turning out to be!!

You've done it yet once again with the beautiful paint, BMF and detail work JR. Love the VCG resins 6 that you built up for this one man. Just unbelievable work all the way around.
