The weathering and rust on this is PERFECT for the scale. There is staining and rust where there should be after a hard Murmansk run but before it was in port long enough for the Captain to need to keep a bunch of bored 18 year old's busy by scrubbing, scraping and painting. I have seen this kit built many, many times and most often it is weathered to the extremes of either looking shipyard fresh or rusted to a point that the Captain would have been relieved of his command. You nailed the Goldilocks zone on this.

Thanks for the kind words on this build. It was one of those things that started from a conversation with my window cleaner (who always has a look at what I'm up to when he comes). Then on BM forum another member popped up who said he had the model in his garage partially started some 15 years ago and he sold it to me. It took me a long time to do, many months, and was a steep learning curve as I had never done a ship before and also never used PE (that nearly drove me insane.....and made me very appreciative of those who use it so well!). The weathering took many attempts to get (what I thought) looked right, glad that you all like it! I had grown very fond of the model (eventually!) when building it, and was quite sad to see it go when it was finished and I handed it over. He now has it at this house in a display case.

If you ever want to do one for yourself but don't need the larger scale or photoetch the 1/144 kit is REALLY nice right out of the box. modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/14698/1-144-hmcs-snowberry-revell

Wonderfully detailed build! It would be great if you posted a thread for it and included some wip pictures as well!

Steve, welcome! That is a fantastic 'calling card' in the corvette model, you did it perfectly! I have been trying to find a 1/72 scale Snowberry kit to build and add to my collection. This is great reference for me when I finally get one.
You're going to fit right in here.

South coast in Hants ? You must be near Portsmouth so a ship is a good calling card :-)

Did somebody say Portsmouth?!? I will be there in two weeks! No kidding... my buddies and I will be visiting the Naval Yard for two days before we head to the Tank Museum in Bovington.

Been past Bovingdon many times but never been in there even though I keep saying I should!

You're going to need both days... Not just the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and HMS Warrior but across the harbour on the Gosport side (Submarines, Naval Guns), and you'll also want to travel along the southern shore of Portsea Island from Old Portsmouth to Southsea Castle and the adjacent D-Day Museum, and (much) further east The Royal Marines Museum in Eastney, I don't think Fort Cumberland is accessible apart from by special arrangement. But don't forget the Royal Armouries Artillery collection in Fort Nelson up on Portsdown Hill, and while the Roman Saxon Shore Fort (Portchester Castle) is impressive it might be pushing it a bit time-wise.
Cheers,
M

That's the spirit, build whatever you want, whenever you want; as long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter what others think. That said, I've glued bits of scrap plastic together, called it a Sci-fi scratch-build, posted it on this forum and the nice people here have been polite enough to find something positive to say about it... Fantastic creations, if it doesn't exist it can't be wrong, can it?
Cheers,
M

Welcome aboard cobber. Love your work on that corvette! I've got one in the stash, but now I'm saving up for all the aftermarket PE.
