Revell 1/350 Tirpitz WIP - PE question

Good evening. I’m back at the bench and assembling a floaty thingy. Will try to post often, but as of late, my desire for modeling has dried up. I relieved myself of my shelf of doom kits to clear the air so to speak. Now that I don’t have the stress of finishing multiple unfinished kits, I can have fun with just one. This looks to be a well molded kit with one deficiency. The ships hull halves were missing their tips at the bow, so I’ll need to build up with plastic card and create a new anchor channel. I contacted Revell to replace, but they don’t have any hull spares at the moment.

You guys seem to have an instinct for building kits I have always wanted to see built! This one is very high on my list so I will be watching with bated breath.

Thank you my friend. What’s crazy is I bought a 1/350 Revell Bismarck a few years ago and it had the exact same problem. :/

I only have the Tamiya version of the Bismark and have not done any Revell ships. I think I have at least one, but I forget which one...ugh....

Good evening friends. Had some time to work on the bow today. I think I have most of it sorted out, just need to form the anchor channels with some type of putty. The top of the hull has been securely anchored to the bottom with a couple pieces of tape! I think I’ll have the tip of the hull wrapped up by Saturday evening. I should have the hull completed in a couple weeks if I can get an hour or so each night. There are quite a few gaps in some of the components that make up the propeller housing that will require a lot of filler. After that I can get started on photo etch and paint. After that, I can set it aside and start working on the superstructures and turrets.

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I am 13 hours and 15 days into this build, and all I have to show for it is a hull with a rebuilt bow and about 7 pounds of filler along the bottom! I had six different sitdown sessions with various fillers and sandpaper due to massive gaps between parts. The nose and anchor horns were rebuilt with plastic card, filler, stretched sprue, and Magisculp. Looking forward to putting some primer on it and seeing how it all turned out. I think I’ll get her in the paint booth before I apply the wood deck and various photo etch components.

Great work so far but any aspirations I ever had of doing this kit are now gone! I shall just live through it watching yours come together.

Whoa!! Now THAT'S a good size model right there Chad. There's some really good and fancy foot work going on this thread to keep this one moving along rather well. I'm with John (keavdog)on the splinter camouflage looking sharp. This is going to look so dang good as it progresses.

Quick update. I slapped some primer down and am quite pleased with how the new bow and putty-filled hull look. So, after 20 days on the hull, it’s now time to paint. I’m now judging this one to take 2 to 3 months to complete. I’m NOT starting any other kits so I can focus solely on this one.

I guess I didn’t really contemplate the size when selecting this project. My station is equipped for 1/48 Luftwaffe and 1/35 Wermacht subjects.

I have seen very mixed reviews on this kit so am glad that I can actually see a full build of what to expect. So far the issues are as exciting as the successes since not only do we get a head's up we can see how to fix them. I am wavering on the fence as to pick one up now.

 That is the same problem I would run into with a build this size Chad. Glad to see you sticking with this one and I don't blame you one bit in focusing solely on this build alone as that is the only way I'd ever make any kind of headway on a model with this size and complexity. Good progress report on this one buddy.
