Eduard F-104C StarFigher "The Zipper" 1/48

Just completed this Eduard F-104C StarFighter “The Zipper” for a Vietnam group build on Instagram.


This kit was a huge change of pace for me as I usually build WW2 prop aircraft. Definitely got me interested in doing another jet soon!


Aftermarket items used:
Quinta Studio Interior 3D decal set
Quinta Studio 3D Ejection Set decal set
Eduard Brassin Exhaust Nozzle
QuickBoost F.O.D
Eduard "Remove Before Flight" 3D decal set


Included goodies in the kit:
Eduard Brassin Wheels
Eduard Brassin Ejection seat
Eduard Detail set


This kit uses the sprues from the Kinetic set. The plastic was overall good minus a few bad injection marks that had to be fixed.

Gallery:

One mistake I made was my choice in the tail, underwing, and front nozzle color. I had originally thought it should have been more grey and less brown than what I had went with. I was pretty bummed out until I found a few images online of F-104C with very similar looking color to mine. Since I found references that look like what I did, I am much happier now.

Love this build. Happen to be a huge fan of the airframe to begin with and you more than did it justice. I have one in the stash but have never built a 104 so I'm getting itchy after watching your build. Well done BrassMan!

I’m glad you followed along and enjoyed the build. I agree. Definitely one of the most attractive airframes in my opinion. I like it so much, that I’m actually starting the other Eduard F-104 within the next week 😅

Wow! If it weren't for the all-white background, I'd swear I was looking at pics of a real F-104C. Nice work! Now you've really got me itching to start building mine...found one of the last ones on Ebay being sold by a hobby shop in Korea.

Thank you my friend. I’ve grown to enjoy doing NMF. In some ways it’s easier than a traditional color paint job.

Thank you! You have a Eduard Zipper coming? If so, that was a good find! Luckily I purchased mine while they were being produced, so I didn’t have any issues getting it. But I know a few people that have been searching for one without any luck.

Yup. It was $107.00, but I think the shipping cost was rolled into that, because it was "free" shipping and it got here from Korea in 2 days. It was crazy fast...ordered it on a Sunday and had it in my hands Tuesday. When I got an e-mail from FedEx on Tuesday morning saying it was out for delivery, I kinda rolled my eyes and said "Yeah right. Nothing gets here from that far away in 2 days." Well, they weren't lying. Couldn't believe it!

Somebody (better at it than I am) needs to do this one! I was standing beside the guy when he took this shot. And no I did not spill the fuel. Or at least I don't remember a spill.

Thanks Joe, I’m glad you like it! I loved building it. It’s sorta making me wanna build a bunch of Vietnam era aircraft. Have my eyes set on an F-105 1/48 with an array of missiles

for my F-104J I’m doing this -




Have a ton of upgrades for it -

They were just designated an CF-104 here but Wikipedia tells me they were  slightly altered 104Gs. 

Hasegawa kitted the Tiger meet scheme but I have never found one for sale at a price I was willing to pay.

I was thinking of doing the "Snoopy Sniper" scheme, but seeing your build is kinda pushing me toward doing the NMF scheme. Haven't tried that on an aircraft model yet. I ended up getting the Caracal set of decals because I haven't heard great things about the resolution and registration of the Eduard decals. We'll see though.
