Hey guys, after the long time with the rusted sherman, it`s time for a new project. I started working on a T-72B with armor plates. This time it should not only look like a rustbucket. I will try to make a destroyed and burned out tank. It will be very interesting, to paint the burned areas of the tank, because I never did this effects before. Here are the first shoots. Btw. I used only the kit and a T-72 Friul track. The sides are made of aluminium. I would like to use photo-etched parts as well, but I have no idea how to work with it. Maybe someone has some helpful links or videos for me? 5DMKII_18405 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18401 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18397 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18392 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

@rob: Do you have a link or some pictures of your M1A1 Abrams? On your old site is only part one available. I have never seen your complete Abrams. TRM: On the most photographys of burned T-72 the tracks hang down a bit. I think because of the broken torsion bar springs. The gray wheels are a little bit smaller, because these are burned wheels without the rubber. My problem is, I want to use some rust effects, a desert camo and the burned effects. The question is, how combine all in one model.

LOL T. You know I'm itching to do a IV bro. Got one half built and four kits waiting.
Ah the Abrams. I'm afraid I lost most pics to a virus a couple of years ago. I can try to search through all the images I have in PB but that may take a long time, thousands of images on there.

@rob: Too bad to hear that. Would be very interesting to see your finished burned Abrams. This time I will try to make some scratch work to realize some interesting details. So I tried to make one of the storage compartment by myself. On many pictures in the internet you can see these storage compartments are open/ empty. To show this little detail on the kit model, I made these parts with some aluminium of a can. Not very easy... 5DMKII_18407 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18412 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18414 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18415 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr I am not sure, whether I make only this one storage compartment, or if I should do all of them. What do you guys think about it?

@carlos: I wanted the tracks in this way, because when a tank is burned, the torsion bar springs break and the tank goes down to the ground. On many pictures the track lays loose on the wheels, or hang down. Maybe I will cut the wheel suspension away, to bring the tank down on the ground... I don't know. Could be very much work to do that. I wanted to use the sand/brown scheme, but also some rust effects.

@rob: What do you think about the height of the tank and the tension of the tracks. Shall I bring the T-72 down on the ground, or leave it in this way. Would be great to see some pictures of your Abrams. 😁

@rob: If you can`t find any pictures of the abrams is no problem. I will research the internet, to find some pictures of burned modern tanks like T-72 and Abrams. I would like to start painting the T-72. But in my opinion it`s too less destruction on it. The turret needs some more damages. Maybe one of you has a helpful idea?

Mathias, check the library here on the forum. T has assembled some awesome links to ref material. There is one where you will find LOTS of modern wrecks. I will try to dig some up as well. check your email in the next day.

Mathias, I found a few pics of the M1 but just the painting and weathering stages. I've gone through hundreds of pics from the past 4 years and have hundreds more to search through. Not 100% sure I have pics of the finished model. Here is a link to lots of wrecks and many modern vehicles. www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?126915-Destroyed-tanksIt's a mixed batch of b/w WWII and many modern ones.

Hi guys, time for an update of the T-72. Yesterday I made the first layers of rust. I started with the rust effect colors from AK. I used some pigments, too. Here is the result. More pics with the russian green layer will follow soon. 5DMKII_18622 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18623 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

After some days of chipping I would like to show you the next stage of the T-72. After the rust layer, I sprayed a russian green layer. Followed by some chipping, I added a flat coat to protect the work. I used the good old hairspray instead of the AK produkts, because you can work a longer time on the model, until the hairspray is ineffectually. I chipped more or less two days on the T-72 until it was satisfying. The next step was a pin washing and some fading with oil colors. I wanted to try these technique, which I have seen many times in scale modelling magazines. That`s it for today. The next step will be some rust and burned areas. 5DMKII_18633 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18636 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18642 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18660 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18671 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18672 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_18677 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

Very impressive Matt. Now with the lighter sand color on she really looks great. Awesome chipping and rust effects. The next steps, the weathering, will really bring this one to life, can't wait. The fun parts are coming up.
