My other big project at the moment, beside the French Jug, is a Bf 109G-6 in Swiss service. This is an interesting one that got the wood tall tail and Erla hood after the fact, and got a very distinctive green/brown camo scheme to clash nicely with its candy canes. Apologies for the flight sim graphic - it just happens to show off the plane the best. I'm using Hasegawa's 1/32 G-14 kit for this build, as well as Eduard interior PE, Aires wheels, Eagle Editions spinner and supercharger intake, Master Details stabilizers and elevators, Quickboost gun barrels, and RB radiator meshing and microtextile harness. I've mostly been playing in the cockpit so far. Got the intake installed (that was terrifying) and the fuselage closed. Once the harness came in I got it built and the lap belts installed. Shoulder belts will have to wait til later.

Doog,..A question if I may?...Are you using AM stuff cos the kit aint' quite up to it,or just to update to what you require Reason I ask is,I've also got an old Hassy MkVb Spit,in this scale.(Picked up at a club table)

Well, kind of a mix.
The EE spinner came in the box, so why not? (and the kit spinner IS kinda weak)
The Eduard PE and the RB harness are there to dress up a rather spartan cockpit, and the Quickboost guns because, while I don't mind drilling out barrels, I hate trying to do it on the funnel barrels the Luftwaffe armament usually sports.
The Aires tires are loads better than the kit examples and I'm a sucker for nice tires!
The rear control surfaces are just me being lazy, and the supercharger intake is something of a bandwagon thing (everyone I've pinged about this kit says replace it).
Overall though...the kit's decent enough, but I haven't found it really amazing...or amazing enough to justify the price Hasegawa sells 'em for. Mine have all come from eBay or vendor tables, so they haven't been as bad, but to be honest, the detail seems about what I'd expect for a 1/48 kit. If Trumpeter can start making their 109s consistently accurate or if Dragon/Cyber-Hobby breaks out of the Emils into other marks, Hasegawa's dominance of late 109s is ripe for the taking I think.

Never realized the seat doesn't look too comfortable unless the pilot is sitting on the parachute pack. Another outstanding build from Doogs' garage!

Been neglecting the Swiss Miss for awhile, but last night I pushed through the bulk of main construction. A few notes. First, I've misplaced my Eagle Editions spinner...so it looks like I'll be using the kit one. No doubt the resin one will show itself within five minutes of fully assembling the plastic. Second, the RB radiator grilles are rather nice...a recommended addition to the Hasegawa G. Third, I've decided to pose the Erla hood closed up. In part because I just like the lines of it better that way, and in part because the interior detail of the canopy is lacking (the "hinge" was just an extra bar of clear plastic). I know Radu has some trick aftermarket PE + acetate canopies, but I'd feel way more comfortable messing with that with the standard framed canopy.

There will be some...haven't gotten there yet aside from some early passes around the fuselage. Overall it's a pretty solid-fitting kit, if somewhat annoying in its engineering.

Update time! Got sidetracked by the MiG-21s, then spent a few nights hopping back and forth between this and the Trumpy Jug...but finally got primer on the Swiss Miss over the weekend. As well as some black (Tamiya XF-1) as a base for the paint. I've become a big fan of painting over black vs. gray primer. Just adds more character to the paint IMO. Last night I pulled out the Gunze C69 Offwhite and got to work on the first part of the neutrality candy canes. Want to give the wings a bit of time to really cure before i start masking for the stripes, but I went ahead and did the rudder. The masks are a custom job from Joe @ Scale Precision Masks. Hopefully more painting tonight...but it's going to dip down to 29 tonight, so work in the garage might be brutal.

Stunning work Doogs....not at all familiar with this variant or the scheme but it is a really interesting one and makes such a change from the standard 109 fare Thanks! It's funny, I have six more 1/32 109s in the stash (and hopefully a seventh for Christmas). Only one of them is slated for German markings.

This is looking like a sweet build so far Doogs! Will definitely be something different from the usual 109 fare as well! Like the black on grey paint method too, might just have to give that a crack too myself..... Cheers, Sam

More fun last night! To get the measure of things, I cut some post-it notes into the proper widths for the red stripes. Or, proper-ish. The Victory Productions decal sheet gives measurements of like 40.69mm. Since I don't have one of those Da Vinci surgical robots, 40mm was good enough for me. Likewise 15mm for the wing stripes. I then taped the slats and flaps in place, masked the white areas, and slit the control surfaces free to be sprayed separately. The big masks for the crosses went down without incident. This all took what seems like forever, but nothing particularly difficult about it. Then to work with the Gunze red (believe it's C4). Had to ultimately go with some pretty heavy coverage since going lighter just means you get pink. Masks came off and, ta-da!
