An idea occured to me when reading the foillowing thread modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=armor&thread=2736&page=2What old kit(s) would you recommend? Anything before the year 2000 is valid. By recommend i mean kits that have no huge problems with accuracy and can still be built into a stunning model even by todays standards. So my two recommendations come from Tamiya and are the PIIIL and Wespe. Both kits still stand the test of time and build very easily which you would expect from Tamiya. As far as i am aware they are accurate and can be built OOB or used as a basis for super detailing. maybe we should have a GB that only features older kits? So come on what kits would you guys recommend? Regards from the Swamp Eth

I believe it's before 2000 not 100% sure...but the Tamiya Marder III is one I'd definitely throw into that category.

My vote is for Baidai's venerable 1/48 Opel Maultier if you can find it!

I really thought those 1/48 Hasegawa Phantoms from the 80's were really great kits

I have 2 old tamiya kits on the go at the mo. the first one is the 1/35 Merkava (Mk1) its an easy kit to build that looks great when painted (i've built one before for another person) altho compared to the likes of current releases from Meng, Academy and Hobby boss she shows her age a bit. neverthe less mine is assembled and ready for paint and it didn't take more than a couple of evenings to prep. The other is Tamiya's venerable M4 sherman, another kit that has been eclipsed by its rivals (in many ways) from the likes of Dragon and Tasca. never the less its a great base for a sherman, albeit with the 'peek-a-boo sponsons' that need to be sheeted in. both of these will see the light of day in completed form for 2013 and both are now over 20 years old. it hasn't reduced the enjoyment factor one iota!
