I'd say it's great letting "Pro's" (not really sure what a "pro" is however) in. I doubt I could be considered a professional by any stretch of the imagination yet I entered the Dec. MoM. Did I think I'd win? No. Did I hope to win? Sure. Did I think I'd have a chance? Hey, ya never know but not likely. Here at this site it's all about having fun with the hobby and sharing your work. For me entering it was about the sharing and I did have a bit of enjoyment from the build. It wouldn't have mattered to me who else was in the MoM. The months I finish a build, providing I can get one finished, I'll enter again. Like you, I would like to see (maybe not ) a vote tally somewhere to see if anyone voted for mine.

Brian,As far as MSCF are concerned,ANY member is entitled to post his build in MoM,whether he be a 'Pro',as you called them,or a first time builder!,as long as it has been blogged or WIP'd on the site, and finished that month.I believe, that because all members have different criteria for what they think is a good build/blog,be it humour,skill,painting/weathering or genre,it makes for a bit of fun, that EVERYONE can be involved in.
OJ,the Mods can obviously see the voting, and who votes, but this is kept hidden(Most of the time!!).As far as I'm aware, there are no current plans to show the whole Poll, but just 1st,2nd,3rd....JUST in case anyone gets no votes... HTH

BTW, is it more pro Rob, with his enormous talent, or Dicky who can scratchbuild an entire model from start to end creating it, or Todd who can build almost any kind of kit creating masterpieces? And I stopped to three members, but I could go on with almost all the "regulars" here. I think we have one of the most talented and gifted bunch of modeling artists here...

ah I expected this. One of the reasons why I hadn't entered until Dec. was that I figured members would think they HAD to vote for mine, or that they think "pro's" shouldn't enter. As Luigi has said, many of the members build great models whether they are " in the business" or just build one or two a year for fun. I have seen some models built by the pros that actually only look good on the web or in pics, and in real life are not as good looking. Also we all have our own criteria as CB mentioned. Maybe a person prefers a clean model so he won't vote for one that is all mucked up, or the member prefers say figures...then he'll of course vote for a fig since that is where his, or her, knowledge lies. I can tell you right now that for the MoY I am no where near winning..lol...and I am very happy with that. As with last month, I did not vote for my model because there are several that I think are much better than mine and deserve my vote. The MoM was set up for members to enter, have fun and gain some motivation to build and paint....nothing more. I had never intended to include a prize for the MoM so it would stay fun and not a contest. I can always do away with the MoM....but I think it's a fun and friendly comp for members regardless if it's there first ever model or a trophy winning model. But if it does cause issues then it will go away.

As far as showing the MoM results, this has been a issue before but there is nothing I can do about it. I hope that when we switch over to the new forum this and many other things can be changed or improved upon...hang in there fellas.

Hey guys, Just a quick question about MoM (that's Model of the Month, not me mum! ). I had a poke through some of the threads and couldn't find the answer to my question, so excuse my stupid brain if I missed it! What's the go if I get two kits finished in the same month as I have done with my two Reapers? Can I enter one this month and one next month, or can I only enter one this month? I really don't mind at all what the verdict is, I just need to know. If I can enter both, one after the other, that's sweet. If I can enter only one, then I have the unenviable task of deciding which of my Reapers I like the best!! Either way, looking forward to being part of the fun!! Cheers, Sam

Hey Chris, Yeah, thanks for that, I did actually read that stuff. I saw the part that says you can only enter one model per month, but I think my brain glossed over the part that says it has to be finished in the month that it is entered. On reading a second time, the veil has been lifted from my eyes! Looks like I have a difficult decision to make!! Cheers, Sam

IMHO the MoM competition here is one of the most open and fun ones on any site...I managed a pair of wins - one after a tie and the other by two votes so either of those cud have gone either way! The reason I coined the term Pro was tied into the Meet the Pro Interview series and we all agreed that one interview with Rob was definitely enough!!!! lol Personally, I can see MoM going from strength to strength and if 2012's results are anything to go by with winning entries including Rally Cars, Sci-Fi Dio, Medieval/Fantasy, Wrecked Wingy, Modern Civilian, oh and apparently there was an armour winner in there somewhere..... the fact that the Model of the Year went to a WW1 build (which I'm pretty sure was one of only two blogged in 2012??) is indicative of everything we do here Long may it continue...... Superbly put MrD Don't envy your choice Sam, at my build rate the one a month will NEVER be an issue for me !

Just wondering if the MOM is still in effect or are there not enough entries? I was going to enter my latest but it seems the interest may be waning.

Well I've taken sometime to consider my thoughts on this subject, how I would communicate my thoughts, what the possible ramifications of my post might be, and a host of other thoughts..... So here goes with my 2 cents.... which is worth half that....LOL
Model of the Month is a VERY VERY COOL CONCEPT. I think most really appreciate having it as an option. What we don't see is the work that must go into the option. No doubt it can be "labour intensive", and hat's off to the bloke that manages it.
The challenges that the site, and our community must face is unfortunately several fold...........
- MoM is a sham, much like a high school popularity contest. It's NOT based on the quality of the work, but the popularity of the work. Now that might sound like "Sour Grapes" and maybe it is, but.... Separate emotions from fact, NOW review MoM you will see the fricking forest through the GD trees. Afterall, how many times can you vote??? seems like unlimited, maybe I am wrong... I, ME, FIRST PERSON SINGULAR have seen the typical IPMS bull$hit were a totally scratchbuilt whatever looses out to some pretty painted Verlinden/Jaguar/Voyager/aftermarket OOB kit, AND NO I am not talking about my FERDINAND. HONEST APPRAISAL of submissions, HONEST APPRAISAL of submissions is what is needed. Or just call the stinking thing High School 101 and be done with it.
- This part of my response is going to be taken "OFFENSIVELY" by some, and well if that's the case, that's the case, no doubt truth F-ing hurts...... In life ALL we have is our word, that's it. You commit to managing a project, then you have made a commitment, you have extended your word. HONOR that commitment, as you would want others to honor their word to you, excuses are like butt holes, we all have them, and they all stink. Yes it maybe true that a person or persons managing this portion of the site has taken on new interests. GREAT, we should all aspire to stretch our fricking GOSSAMER WINGS. BUT not at the expense of our word. We all as adults have faced this situation, we have temporarily, and or permanently OVERCOMMITTED ourselves. It happens, how you F-ing handle that issue is what defines our character. Simply running and hiding makes that person a moral coward, liar and shows to the world that that person has ZERO intestinal fortitude. That person should have been an adult and said something, and or maybe more importantly WE, this site should have had redundancy, a fricking backup. In my world, you are always training your replacement for just such issues.

I will add my .02 cents, because what the hell! All model contests where the contestants are known are popularity contests, duh! When the contestants are not known, they can still be boiled down (gross generalization here) to who is the prettiest. Honestly if your total scratch build project is not finished (paint and weathered) well and an aftermarket love fest project is finished to a master's level, bitch all you want, the finish is important, and to me, the MOST important part of a build.
Everything in life is a popularity contest, that is the human condition. Now maybe if we were all Vulcans things would be different... Life is too short, the sun will go supernova someday, stop worrying about the s*** you cannot change.

Well we all have our opinions, and I respect that, so you won't be banned. As for the MOM, and the forum in general, well I guess it would be my fault since MSC is my forum. I had considered taking down MSC a couple of years ago due to no longer having the time running the forum, along with other reasons. Instead I kept the forum up and running for those who preferred MSC over FB and other forums, and to have a chilled place to hang out. Over the years the forum lost a lot of members and admin/moderators so keeping track of things was a bit too much. During the first few years of MSC I spent nearly all my free time running the forum, sadly more than I spent with my family, and I just don't have that time to devote to just MSC. In the coming months I will spend some time making changes to the forum by eliminating some things and basically down sizing.....or just shutting down MSC for good, still undecided.
I will have to get back to this thread and comment more on it next week when I am back from Wonderfest.
