History : In Feb 1944 one of the first protoyype JagdPanzers was Fgst.305001 . Fgst. 305001 mounted the Porsche type suspension and the 128 mm Pak 44 L/55 canon . After inspection Fgst. 305001 was rejected due to poor quality of armour . She never received a Zimmerit coating and was used for training / evaluation .
The "What If" : Later in testing Fgst. 305001 has a 128 mm KwK 44 L/65 cannon mounted . This longer barrel increases velocity and accuracy . She now has a maximum tank killing range 4000 meters , an increase of 500 meters over the 128 mmm Pak 44 L/55 . After testing the new cannon , Fgst. 305001 suffers mechanical problems and sits in a repair depot . As the war progresses badly for Germany Fgst. 305001 is repaired from her variouse scattered parts . For better concealment Fgst. 305001 aquires the flash suppressor type used on the prototype Panzerkampwagen VIII Maus . By now it is April 1945 and the Russians are advancing towards Berlin .Fgst. 305001 is brought to take part in the Battle of the Seelow Heights above the Orde River . She is used to support the Wehrmacht there . On 19 April the Russians over run the remnants of the German defences at Seelow heights and rush west ward towards Berlin . Fgst.305001 has fought her first and last battle .

Some adapting is neccesary in order to fit the RB barrel . There is only this short shaft at the base . I shoetened the RB barrel an inch . I used a hack saw and then drilled a 3/32 hole 1/2 inch into the base of the barrel with a cordless drill ...... .........i was glad when that was over ! A brass rod will fit into the hole .

Because i'm using the aluminum barrel i will improve the kits canon mount . The friction created by tightening the nuts will support the barell in an elevater attitude . I used this 5/32nd bolt to replace the kits nubs . Cut off the pivot point nubs. The reinforcement inside the barrel was in the way , i removed it and inserted a section of 3/8th inch styrene tube with a section of 5/16th inside that .Then drilled out the holes to insert the bolt .

Looking real good! Count me in... Never thought about using bolt instead for better reinforcement. Are you missing a nut? LOL

Then a section of 1/4 inch tubing Back to the aluminum barrel . I insert the bass rod and cut sections of aluminum tubing to fit over the brass rod . The sections of aluminum tubing were fitted and c.a. glued inside of the 1/4 inch styrene tubing . The gun barrel with the brass tube is slid inside barrel base with the aluminum tubing .Its not glued in position . I had to grind off the edges of the nuts to clear the inside of the mantlet . That part is finished .

Here you are I very seldom drop in here btw. Most What Ifs are are just too much fantasy for me. Your intro story did sound feasible so i'll stick around and see what matures out of this. You must be committed to have gone to that much trouble with the barrel, none the less nice work buddy. Tony lee

Tony , i"ve been thinking about this for a while now . I did about 4 days research on the web and took about 5 pages of notes . That was the basis for this build and it should be a plausable vehicle when completed . ;D It took 2 times until i got the barrel the right dimensions in calibers . I wasnt looking forward to cutting and drilling it again .But alls well that ends well , right !? ;D Thanks .

Hey Dicky , thanks my ! I did re-write the narrative though . I thought about what Tony said and after further research i'm going to use Fgst. at the battle of "Seelow heights " . That sounded like a better fit for the long range capabilities of Fgst. 35001 . I agree she could of fought where ever she wanted but them pisky Russians were pretty good at sneakin around in the Berlin rubble and placing explosives under these slow moving beast , so i'm moving her further east with the Wehrmacht .
Yes , a lathe would of been a real nice tool to have used on the barrel modification . Hmmmmm .......i wonder what Micro Mark has on sale ?Naw , that'd be to darn easy ............ ;D

Not a whole lot done here . I'm building a new workbench and paint booth while building this model . I need to get the paint booth done so i can spray the interior of the casement on this . I'm thinking of going with the interior buff white since i've seen photo's of these in that color ...not the red oxide primer . I glued the front bulkhead on the casement . I do not like how DML stuck the seam in the weld area . Its going to be a mess to clean up . I distressed the bulkheads is the reason for the scratches . Later i'll smooth those a little .
