Thanks Luigi!!! LOL..Krylon I think! Rattle can of gloss black I had. I have and have used the Alclad Glass Black along with other glossy blacks...pretty much the same in my opinion!

Hey TRM, looks like it's been a while since you've worked on this one. I have the 596 kit pretty much built, just still in all the sub assemblies. The paint directions are incorrect leaving it real pukey green. Trying to decide if I need to do a complete repaint or try to tone it down with washes or just open the box on the other one I picked up on clearance.

LOL...nice try Andy!! Hi Rick...words to remember..."anything can be fixed". If you think it needs to be painted again, then go for it! Either strip it or sand down the trouble spots and re-prime. Yeah, I think the Tropical scene might have the colors off! There has been an awfully long discussion on the colors on a secondary post of this on the MSW site. Here: modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=202180&page=1 About page 4 or 5 the guys started tossing around color thoughts one various boats and times. Worth reading I think. I subscribe to two rules of thought....one being I like to come close to what something should look like and there being wear and tear, in field painting, color discrepancies from the original chip cards and the new model paints, scale, weathering and of course fading to consider....loose interpretations are par for the course and should not be criticized too much. Second being that I paint what I feel or want to see the end result to be. Taking the 109 for instance, there is a Naval grey applied in some pictures and depending on the year can range from grey to a bluish grey...once in the Pacific she was painted to a possible Tropical scheme which to some see this as all one green and others green with a black green measure. THEN.....there is always the wild cards...was she re-painted, which was common for the time bringing her back to the blue grey or even something different? LOL!! Endless. Read what is tossed back and forth, look at a number of color pics if possible and then go from there. Monitor color, fading of pics and the dreaded "picture touch-ups" are at foot too so do what you feel is the color that you feel best represents the boat!!! After all that Blah blah....IMHO, grab a Russian 4BO modulation set....lay down something pretty and shade and fade brotha!! Andy!! Getting Damp down here in the basement...mind opening a window? LOL!!! Oh yeah...getting back to this!! I moved it to the "front" bench so I can stare at her for a couple days!! Let me see what I can do to start letting the chips fly again!!!

Lack of time, crappy paint, and a big Mossie has kept 596 in drydock for quite sometime. I am leaning towards the total repaint. Here's were she sits now. Everything on the deck is dry fit so re-painting it would be pretty straight forward. I just need to get myself motivated to re-start it (and about 20 other partially built kits!) Rick

My first thought is is looks great! The camo is excellent!! A little bright which washes and/or dot fading would certainly tone down and darken. LOL...now I am thinking how much wash I need now...Oh Boi!! The mojo will hit you my friend! You have come this far!!

mlbrsx
Im not a boat model builder ordinarily but as a kid 60 some odd years ago the PT boat (Balsa Wood) was one of my first models and for some reason, way before I had ever heard of PT 109 those craft really impressed my. You have done an outstanding job with this one, the cockpit looks ready to occupy and take off on a mission. That is one of the finest paint jobs I have ever seen.

Again "Mike" Great job on this!! Inspirational to say the least since I can't get my Arse in gear and get this one back to the bench!! Griswold? I need to put 2 and 2 together...You must know Pete (modelfreak72)as you are townies!! Not sure about the "l" in the name but the BRSX could bed the Boston Red Sox? Keep listening to the wife...they are a great source for direction in the builds!!
