No mate it's a two parts clear + one part hardener + a smidgen of their matching thinners. They give you twice as much clear than hardener which is obviously a good thing with those ratios. Its really nasty stuff though, works brilliant but is a B******* to clean out the AB and smells bad so good venting and a mask is a must. Don't put it through a small nozzled AB. They recommend a 0.5mm setup but if you have less then the thinners need to be upped considerably and I'd be very cautious about using it in something like the Sotar 20/20 or a custom micron etc. A half decent cheap AB would be ideal, I use my Badger Anthem, its a very useful AB for this sort of thing and can take a battering.
Another thing to note. They say to mix around 15ml for a 1/24 body. I mixed that much for this 1/20 build and ended up using less than 5ml's. Its not reusable so its ideal to mix as little as possible but enough to get the job done.

Thanks for the explanation Mark, sounds like something to avoid for the mo........especially the risk of running it thru me beloved `Sotar`,...s`funny i got a full bottle of Testors Dull coat which you mix with the Testors lacquer but i`ve never used it coz i`m not certain of the mix ratios............it`s supposed to be really good stuff as well.........on the right build of course Thanks again buddy

No problem buddy, and I don't blame you, its very sticky stuff and seems to only shift with Lacquer thinners or the actual thinners that you get for it and its quite a job even then. I'll see if I can find your answer to the Testors stuff, I just bought some Testors gear myself so I need to get clued up on their brand anyway. Talk soon mate

Thanks very much Andy, I'm excited buddy.
Before the rather hot events of the day today I managed to get three layers of polishing done on this build. I didn't get any pics though, that was not possible before the fire broke out so that'll be tomorrow with any luck. I still need to fine polish and then finish polish it but its looking good, I'm pleased with it so far.
Boot's the polishing stuff I have is the Zero pots. 4 pots from course to finishing polish but I still needed to wipe it over with some 2400 W&D before the polish was used.

Update time fellas, I found a few flat/matt spots on the parts so I started again on the polishing today. 4 stages with about an hour on each stage but I reckon the parts came out ok. Not world class but good enough for this build and I can't wait to do this with the Mustang I watched a couple of films while doing that polishing so its not such a bad job.

So shiny!!! Fantastic job keeping it that way. That's something I always wanted to learn how... using very fine sandpaper and wet sanding thing. That's something I might have to do to my helicopter bubble canopy...

Thanks a lot Andy. The canopy would be an ideal candidate but personally I would dip that in Klear first because that alone can give amazing results on clear plastic.

Prof, thanks buddy.
Dicky, yeah mate getting very close to the end now. The things that will slow it down are stuff like the wing mirrors as they will need polishing too but its almost there. Thanks buddy. I haven't seen TG for some time now Dicky, I'll definitely have to check it out again especially for that feature.
Andy, you're welcome buddy. If you need any info on the process then give me a shout. Its a method that I would never leave out of a wingy build as it does make a huge difference to the glass look of the canopies. It has to be the clear type future and not the milky type, the latter makes the finish a little muted in comparison to the clear stuff.

Boo, I checked this thread regularly but haven't managed to respond yet. Re read it this morning and will defo be an example for me when I start the McLaren F1. Man despite the issues you are doing a grand job, love all that detailing and paintwork. Reminds me I got to get myself some shiney Mr. Hobby paints and that wiring. It looks sweet Question about the polishing stuff and so on...well, I'm planning to make my F1 look like after the race, so a little dirty (though not too much of course, or so I'll try ), so would one need those polishes as well? I'm not into this stuff so far (buildwise) since I only got experience with tanks and wingies so far Anywhoo, I defo look forward to your next update! Cheers

Leon, Gary, Spud, Joe, thanks a lot guys I appreciate your comments Wout's, thanks buddy. In all the modern F1 races I've seen other than wet weather races, the cars seem to look pretty much the same at the end of the race. Very shiny still but maybe a slight satin finish to it. So I'd be tempted to do the polishing stages but leave off the final wax stage at the end and maybe the one stage before that too to keep it a tiny bit more muted. To be honest buddy I have no experience with the slightly dirty side of car modelling so I'm just guessing there. Maybe someone else has experience with that who can help us ?One other thing to consider is these polishes make for a surface that can't be painted on, paint or anything similar just beads up on the surface so any misting dirt that is put on with an airbrush may be best applied before any polish. Is it the Orange and white car or the chrome colour McLaren you've got Wouter ?

Thanks for the reply mate, lot's of new stuff to discover...just found a UK based webshop where they sell a lot of that stuff: Hiroboy Yup, it's the Marlboro age McLaren, so I'll need some AM decals as well. It's the Tamiya McLaren MP4/5B I got. Eager to start the build, probably at the beginning of the F1 season Cheers

Hey Wout's, yeah Hiroboy is a heaven for the car and bike side of this hobby. Delivery is a little slow and there's always a lot out of stock but there's so much stuff there and there's nowhere like it that I've found. That's my favourite ever F1 car, the shape, the colouring, its just perfection. Mind you I do love the new Lotus too Well here's an update guys. I have just dry fitted some parts here and the wing mirrors are not in place as they are drying at the moment but its almost done now. A couple of touch ups to do to. Its tiny but its got a place until the workshop is ready. Does anyone know why Tamiya don't supply the mesh for the section behind the drivers head ?

Most excellent Boo, fantastic job.
In answer to your question it may be done to extend the life of the kit, you will notice that Tamiya do with their 1/20 the same as their 1/12, re-release it with added PE, it might just be that this is a candidate for the same treatment?

Andy thanks a lot buddy, it is an odd angle for the number isn't it but works well Prof thanks very much, hm maybe, sounds like a possibility doesn't it. I have some mesh that I'll be able to slot in there but I find it odd that its not there in any format as its a very noticeable area.

Well ya gotta be well proud of that one Mark............she is a pure gem buddy!! , that could grace any mantle piece with pride............the polished finish is superb!!, was you gonna put her on a small darkwood plinth or just leave her free standing............not trying to add fuel to the fire here ya understand , the only downside is securing it to the plinth now that she`s in final stages.............gorgeous work my friend

CB, Luigi, thank you my friends, glad you like it. I didn't expect it to be as small as that when I bought the kit but its kinda nice, a change for me to get so close to finishing too eh Boot's thanks buddy. Yeah I'm pretty pleased with it, I could'a done better in some places but I approached this as a learning piece and will know for the next time. F1 stuff is as tricky as I thought it would be, especially the sanding due to the little bits and bobs that poke out. It has made me want to get on to that Mustang sooooo much though. I'm glad you mentioned a base actually buddy, I have some Zebrano wood bases that I had some of my older broken (due to the move) models on that I could sort out for this, I reckon I'll have the perfect size for it. Although I'm not quite sure if its worthy of one at the moment, I'll see how it looks in a few days time and if I still like it then I'll get it on a base. I can't believe I've almost (and will) finish a model, its been a while. Its also very low to the ground so I should be able to get something through the plinth to pinch the bottom of the chassis without being seen. Thanks again buddy that means a lot to me, your car stuff is superb and to have comments like that from you is so encouraging to me.

Nice to see the wheels and bodyparts fitted, looks cool mate!
I agree, those McLarens were very cool indeed. About the new Lotus...well, like the color setting, but they stick to the dent in the nose like most of last years cars...not quite beautiful...I prefer the McLaren, something about it's looks ^^
Cheers

Well if thats ya learning piece buddy then i reckon ya cracked it , as for the encouragement.......i don`t reckon you need much me `ol mate........havin` followed your work from day 1 on MM i know just how much a perfectionist you are, the shiney cars are always a challenge but your work ethic and patience always comes out on top bud. Gonna really look forward to that Mustang...........especially now you`ve mentioned a `special` paint job , i`ve got something i wanna do this year as well........inbetween the RCGB,Mirage and the next PAGB ...............i`ve always said i wanna do another bike only this one will be `Streetfightered` (if i can source what i need). Thanks again for the kind comments matey but rest assured you is nailing these cars The only reason i mentioned the base for her was because i thought how nice she looked with the white set against the wood grain table in the first couple pics............so it`s your fault cheers buddy
