Bill, Leon, thx Gents!
Looks like my excuse for staying indoors ends with rain on Sunday and clear skies and cool temps Monday AM, Dang me! Ah well, I do like the idea of taking this dio to IPMS Seattle in April 18', so I may have to crank it up a notch or two. let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.......................
The nice thing about this dio right now is the timing, veggies and ground work are all that is left. Mind you, I won't rush it to make any deadline, but this part is actually fun if I stay in focus and have plenty of pics to keep it all in a realistic perspective. This is actually where I slow the clock and get anal retentive, if yaz knowz whats I'ma meanin? If I screw up this part up, it's all just a lesson in academics. Told yall I was a slow builder, lol.
Keep yall posted. Thx Gents, Ski.

What's the Marine Corp mato? "Improvise, adapt and overcome, ooraaaaaaaaaah!" A serious oversight was committed, but corrected, and it had to do with the fact that 200mm figs are just a slight bit smaller in all aspects compared to a 1/9th scale figs. Seeins how the figs will be far apart from each other, 200mm vs 1/9th, it wouldn't be a big deal, but constructing the cemetery wall according to the 200mm specs would be a problem for that 1/9th scale Ranger fig. So, as mentioned above, I did some slight modifications and added 3/4" foam to the bottom of the wall structure and plasticard to the gate. I think it came out rather nicely and now we prep for paint and weathering, plus careful planning of our veggie arrangement. The veggies, just as with any good meal, can spoil a good plate, so steady ar she goes................lol. __________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________ FLASHBACK: Now, a quick pictorial rehash of where we are in the final stages. Since nearly all the prior pics of this SBS have been wiped by the PB debacle I will just add a few pics to get everyone up to speed. To repost the entire build would be futile, but one could go back and read the details if they wished. At any rate, we are getting close to closing out this dio, veggies and ground work are front and center at this time. May I introduce to you the crew of this delicate dance of resin and paint...... Yes, the glint in the eyes of the 4 Germans will be added, minor oversight, lol.. Thx for watchin and more to follow soon. Cheers, Ski.

Wow, has it really been this long since I posted on the dio? Now Deafpanzer's really gonna get after me, HA!
Hope yall are doing well and still "sniffin paint and gluin your fingers together".
A lot has gotten in the way of my seasonal bunker time, even though I've been retired now for over a year. I never got to touch this dio last winter, Moma is the new Boss and her kitchen became priority numero uno, go figure. Well, the remod is nearly finished and all the outside summer work will be done before the snow flies, so this dio is on the bench.
Since most of the major work has been completed it's only a matter of getting the veggies and base done. I'm looking forward to getting back in the swing of things, it's been way too long. I'll start updates in late October and I may even be able to reload pics from the photobucket fiasco. That will take some time.
At any rate, hope yall have a geat summer and see ya when the snow flies.
Cheers, Ski.

Ok, instead of taking hours to redo every pic from the beginning of the loss to my last stop it was easier to do a quick pic update on the Hog, then I'll do the BMW and carry on with the Cemetery wall, etc. The Harley (Hog) BuildItaleri's 1/9th Scale Harley Davidson WLA 750 WWII Military Motorcycle Please note, this is the second Harley I've built for this dio. The original took a deep six dive into the abyss and made it into the scrap heap. Yes, it was completed, but given the fact that this kit is so fragile it doesn't take much effort to break a part here, a part there, and before you know it, it looks like an abomination of it's former self. No worries, I pulled my second kit from the shelf and got to work. This gave me time to get the missing items corrected, so now I'm proficient at building Harleys. For this build I was able to find technical manuals for the Harley online, they were very helpful. So, the plumbing and wiring are an exact duplication of those manuals and should be pretty accurate. I also used countless photo references to portray the correct location of the guts of this beast. So I'm satisfied with the results. Also, The main frame and suspension, forks and seat base have been assembled. This jig came in handy when dealing with this delicate kit. I used scrap wood from the shop and made a slot just wide enough to hold the kit in place while I used my "three" hands to put it together, lol. The engine, battery, and tail light wiring are visible in these pics. I decided to use colored wiring in some places to add visual interest. Routing some of these lines proved challenging at times. The tires were installed right after the main wiring job was finished. Some of the wiring had to be routed under the fuel tank as seen in reference pics, so I had to remove one tank half and run those lines. Here's a pic for scale reference, 1/35th vs 1/9th. What a difference, eh? Some of the hydraulic/oil and fuel lines had to be remade, the kit lines were very weak and broke quite easily. I bent some cooper wire to match the kit lines and kept the end caps for each line, then I bored out the middle and slipped in the copper. Tada! It worked just fine. Starter Solenoid and More WiringHere's a close-up pic of the brake linkage and scratch built locking wing nut. That break signal relay was a real hoot to get done correctly, especially adding the wiring to it. Looking at these pics now I remember how misaligned the valve tubes were and how some of the engine parts needed a bit more attention to be accurate. All the wire clamps were made from strips of pewter or copper sheeting. The horn and headlight wiring wasn't too bad until I had to install them, then the wrestling match began. I remember spending quite a bit of time getting these two units installed in the correct location and still look acceptable. I used a small piece of sprue for the wire junction above the horn. It has all the wires connecting to it before it goes back to the battery and fuse box. Even on a 1/9th scale kit this was proving frustrating, it's pretty small and in a lousy location to work on. Ok, wiring done, tool box and minor items installed and now it's time to work the seat, rifle scabbard, and saddle bags. Saddle Bag and Seat ModsThe saddle bags that came with this kit are atrocious, to say the least. I considered several different ideas of how to make them look realistic and decided on using Tamiya White putty. The samples are seen below. The seat needed some work too, so the stitched seam was added using putty and a folded tarp or wool blanket with straps and a shovel were also added to the rear stowage rack, and a sachet was strapped onto the scabbard. The saddle bags were given a good primer coat, then I used oils to get the worn leather effect. Before and After Preliminary Weathering of the HogBefore,..................................... After, ........................................... Before I did any of the dirt/mud splatter I used Mig's Engine oils spill on the engine in the appropriate locations. Then all the standard techniques for splattered mud were used to get Mig's Euro dirt in the most likely spots, from tooth brush flicking to airbrush blasting a wet brush, and a fair amount of dry pigments as well. Close ups of the engine grease and grime. The muffler had several pigments added as well. I will not be redoing the figure logs, there's just way too much involved and sorting though the pics vs the write-up would become a job, very time consuming. This is a hobby, not a job, right? Hope this brings everyone up to speed and from here on out I'll redo the cemetery wall write-up, or take off from where I left off. I don't think that portion of the dio build was effected by the Ph Bkt debacle. Thanks for watchin Gents, more to follow soon. Cheers, Ski.

Gents, this big pig is being put to bed for now, no space when she's done. So, I'll be starting 2 other dios/vignettes in the mean time. Honestly, there's no room in my curio cabinet till Moma get's her own and I ain't building it this winter, HA!
Look for "1 Para Arnhem", and "Airborne dio", 1/6th and 120mm respectively. They are up and running, well one before the other, lol. Winter 2021 will bring this big pig back for the finish with my curio cabinet space restored!
Cheers, Ski.

Wow, I haven't seen this build up for some time, thanks, Buddho.
The status is still the same, on hold for more cabinet space. If the economy holds together this spring, I'll be making a cabinet for my pretty lil woman and reclaim my space, HA!
P.S. This was another PB debacle thread that lost all the pics. I haven't had any issues using Fotki, they're great!

Quick Update. "Easy Pickins" is back on the bench now that I actually have cabinet space for when it's done. It's been in the hanger sitting in the corner for long enough. I'm reworking the MG34 for mounting on the sidecar, pics coming soon. I will carry on as if we never left it. Thanks for watchin. Cheers, Ski. P.S. My sad attempt with the open wheel Indy Car ended in an epic fail, so I'm stickin with what I know and Ruckin Onward. Besides, I can hide my goober marks and yall will never be the wiser, HA!

Thank you, Gentlemen all. It's good to be back at it, leme tell yuz! I was so disappointed with my Indy car that I pouted in the corner for a bit, HA! Then I remembered this big pig was in the cue,................ NEXT! Thanks Glenn, the current Hog is the second attempt you see there. As anyone who's built one will tell ya, they are very delicate and require a lot of gentle touch, not a Magilla Gorilla grip, like me, HA! I've been thinking about a shed or old broken-down barn that would give the Ranger enough clear space to sweep the road. Something that would tighten up the footprint of this base and bring the action a little closer. Still mulling that one over, but I'll keep yall posted. Thanks again, Gents.
