Thanks to all for the interest Already Ive made a small mistake and forgot the teachings of a lifetime "Measure twice cut once" With out looking or checking I cut the holes for the grills without offering them up to find out that the metal grills are slightly smaller than the moulded grills. Argh, so I had to put a bit back on.I think in retrospect that the use of etch is good for some things but not so neccesary for detail thats just as good on the plastic. ;D

Yes ,you cannot know how much I have chastised myself and beaten myself up inside over such a fundamental mistake ,for punishment I have glued my hands together with super glue to stop me making more mistakes. Its a mess and I may revisit it when I have stuck all these other things on ,At the moment I cant believe how small some of this brass etch is ,you pick it up with the smallest tweezers I have and its vanished Its seems that my new mantra is ..."where the blazes has that gone "

Yes I suppose Luck is a component ,especially as I have a bad habit of never looking at plans and directions ,until I have too, that is .But my main skill has been honed over years and years and years I can say without fear that at times I have been completely incompetent and done it entirely wrong .Then I will read the instructions. That inane skill crosses over into flat pack territory as well. Fortunately there is a word for that as well, retrofit. ;D

I made this gadget a few years ago when etch benders needed a mortgage to buy one . Its not my original idea I adapted it from somewhere (thanks whoever). The 2 rulers are fibre glass and therefore have a sharp edge, I think they are used for wargaming. Ive cut one up to give different sizes so that I can operate on most sizes of brass etch.Just slacken the wing nut put the brass under the right size ,tighten wing nut bend and go. It works better than it looks. Its seen some action. I call it my "All purpose combined cutting mat and bender tool" the ideal gadget for bending.

Great build there Christopher!! Like the homemade tools brotha'!!! When faced with shelling out $100 for some tiny piece of plastic...think we all become a bit creative!!! Thanks for sharing!!
