I started the build sunday and kept on building yesterday and today. This tank has something that makes it irresistible. I had never built something russian and now I finally understand their hidden fashion. I've ordered the modelkasten tracks to enhance its appearance, but that's all the aftermarket stuff I'll be using. These are the first pictures of the ongoing work: The fit is nice but not perfect, I look forward to painting such nice volumes.

Luigi- this is looking great! If you are not going to use the very early early war, hull side mounted rectangular fuel tanks----- then you want to shave off the vertical positioning strips on the side. There are 4 on each side. Easily and often missed- the instructions should do a better job of explaining that these have to go! :-) If you are using the side mounted tanks- forget everything I said! Looking forward to the paint going on! Steve

Wooohooo!!!! A wingy guy's gettin' slowly drawn into the light................ lol lol, I've already entered the tunnel, all my future projects are about building tanks... After this one I have a Tamiya Stug III Ausf B waiting, and then I'll build another Firefly (dunno if Dragon or Tasca), to depict this scene:

I think I'll depict one of the generic ones, for instance one of these: The caption says they are mod. 1942, is it right or do Dragon are right saying they are mod. 1941? @all: thank you for the interest, it definitely helps to keep the mojo up

Nice start Luigi! Who makes that T34? It's a relatively old and hard to find Dragon kit. I found it on eBay and paid it only 20 euros The tracks I'll use are the modelkasten ones, much easier to assemble than both the kit and the friulmodel ones.

Great stuff Luigi and with Steve 'T34' Reid on the case yer won't go far wrong! I couldn't be happier than finding myself hepled by an expert of this peculiar tank. I was reading that it reminds the sherman, although looking all the same, there's no identical one.

I couldn't be happier than finding myself helped by an expert of this peculiar tank. I was reading that it reminds the sherman, although looking all the same, there's no identical one. Luigi- I am no expert on the T-34. I still have a couple thousand mistakes to make. Seriously- that is what it takes if you want to really get familiar with these. Until you train your eyes- they all look very similar. You need a high threshold of pain and help to spot and memorize the differences. Take a look at the drivers hatch on the pic you posted above- that is what makes the tank a model 1942. It is a different and simpler design than the kit you have. The pic shows a Factory 112 tank- the arrangement of the grab handles is characteristic of that factory. As you move from the foreground to the background- the first two tanks are cast turrets- the next few are welded turrets. Your kit is a welded turret. Dragon makes both types which gives you lots of latitude if you want to start swapping parts. If you want to paint your kit green- add a large turret slogan and weather it you will be fine. Enjoy it as it comes in the box! If you like this one- you can build another and ratchet up the obsessive compulsive behavior slowly. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions at all. Steve

Thanks Steve, I went on with a lot more infos and a new idea on how the tank will be in the end. First of all, given the tank will be set in spring '42, I removed all the old style fuel tanks from the sides, sanding their attachment points. Then I scratchbuilt some details that will be seen from the grille in the back, and I started rebuilding the handles with some iron wire. Here's some images:

Thanks Spud I fell in love with the T-34. In the next future I'll buy the AFV one, the only one with full interiors, and I'll make it in whitewashed camo. Dunno yet if it'll be the 85 or the 76. In the meantime I decided this will be green overall, with division markings on the turret. It'll be a nice test for modulation, filters and weathering.

Nice work on the details Luigi, it's always the little thinks like these that make a build stand out in the end.

Some progresses I made today: I finished the handles, the turret's nearly finished. I had serious fit issues with the gun mantlet, I had to use a lot of putty.
