hhhhm done gone and re painted the motor. Looks good the second time round G. If I may....add some variation to the motor now. All the parts and block look the same with the chipping. I'd darken the oil pan and add lots of grease and oil staining to it. Also the alternator could be a darker color do add to the tonal differences. Just my 2 pennies worth...like how she looks tho. ;D

Thank you friends, I'm glad you like the second version too !
It's absolutely not finished yet, consider it a white canvas.
Now the real work can begin, just like Rob said...

Thank you ! You are a very helpful bunch of guys up there ! That's what I need to make a convincing engine for this is something I'm not experienced in. For the finishing of the lump I have new products on the work table, AK Light rust and Engine grime. I look forward to start experimenting but first I rework the alternator (rusty/peeled off black)...and more.
Best regards !

ooh AK engine grime you will like that one. You can mix it with the dark brown wash, or the wash for NATO vehicles to darken it......oh heck, you can mix any of the AK stuff together Mix in a bit of pigments for texture on the built up grime around the oil pan, valve/head cover. Just a few things to give you ideas.

truly a perfectionist! I did like the previous weathering stuff on the engine, but if you think it ain't right, it ain't right...
This looks great as well...sadly I'm by no means an expert and can't really help out as jackwagon states. Looks great to me already but I guess the Rustmeister(s) can help you out maybe
Anyway, great work Guy!
Cheers

Rob, I've got to take other pictures, these were made in the evening by artificial (yellow) light. I've added light dust here and there and I think it still needed that bit more.
DickyF, thank you, in my own eyes I'm far from brilliant.
Wouter, it didn't satisfy me enough, I just wanted to experiment with salt, hairspray... The same counts for me, I'm not an expert on engines and certainly not on rusted or burnt ones. But we keep learning !
Chris, thank you. I always take advice very serious because sometimes it pays off mate !
Tomorrow the result of the finished engine pffff !

As promised other pics, I hope this look does the job : The AK Engine grime and AK Light rust worked easy, these are worth every cent ! Btw. if there's more to correct, please tell me. Best regards ! G.

G, these pics look much better bro. The oil on the oil pan looks very good. You could enhance it more by adding some dark brown or black wash to the grime....and some dark earth pigments. But this where the pan meets the engine block. You can then lightly apply some of the engine oil stuff to it little by little. I think you will like what you get. Built up engine oil/grime....just a thought bro, does look good as is.

I'm so glad to hear from you it worked out well. Today I see what I can do to make the oil pan look just a bit dirtier.
Then I start painting the chassis.
See you later !

Hi there Rob, nothing spectacular I'm afraid, I can only show you the chassis covered in Tamiya Surface primer. Now it's time to spray on a battery of brownies ! O yeah, this is the look I will try to reach, bright yellow and blue : ONLY FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES !!! She's a beauty isn't she ? I'm making plans to go for a diorama setting !

Rob, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it ! I want to paint the motor compartiment in very faded olive drab colors, loaded with rust effects, dirt,... Talking about the chassis detail Rob, I didn't go for the very last bolt, nut..., the visible sections however are detailed enough.
Best regards !

Yep, no sense in wasting time and material to detail what you can't see. I've done that in the past and have strayed away from it in the past few years. What's there is more than enough.
A faded green will show the rust really good, it's the dark green that is harder to work with...kind of like a red color. I have a pic of a Sherman conversion that has lots of yellow and white on it. I started building it last year but didn't get far, got burnt out on Shermans...3 in one year.

You're right ! Why going for hidden detail after all ? I prefer spending my time in acceptable paint work. Showing very old crispy rust spots and streaks in the motor compartiment are my goal, faded green on reference pics looks so good !!! 3 Shermies in one year is more than enough I'd say ! I'd loose interest in the third one I'm afraid... After this build I start a Dodge Bigshot wreck and place them both in the same diorama. More rust tomorrow, now it's wife'n kids time !
