Tamiya 1/16 Jagdpanther

Hello all.

Well I have been working (slow) on rebuilding a FO 1/16 Jagdpanther tank these last months, and thought it would be time to share what I have been up to, and to get some inputs and to put pressure on my self to get some more work done.




Since I got my 1/48 done(above) I got some serious jagdpanther bug. And after a while by coincident I came over a cheap, built but never used, 1/16 tamiya rc Jagdpanther.

Upon arrivel I had received a few shot's of it, and knew that I was looking at a teardown and rebuild, but that's were all the fun is :-)

So to start .

The first task was to strip it down,and remove all the paint.

No primer was used so it came off with no hard work. Just some tamiya thinner and light scrubbing.



And then came the fun part, shopping for upgrade parts.
first of,a must have book.



And then I started to get small small jiffy bags in the mail.
Like with other scales you get a ton of aftermarked parts to these big scale tanks.

I started at the bottom, fixing the final drives. Both for added strengt to the axel and for looks

Fascinating rebuild, will it be RC in the end?

Yes Bull it will be, so I'm adding just the 'right' amount of 'hops ups' to make it a runner and not being afraid all tiny PE stuff will fall off :-)

After the clean up I was ready to start working on the weld lines. These kit's a expensive, but they look rather basic if one do a out of box build. So weld lines are a must :-)

I started by adding a groove to make it more easy to get the milliput to stick better.











As you can see in the last pic's it has received a coat of mr surfacer 500 to.

Next up was to add some PE parts.

I bought the Aber barrel cleaning rod stowage.


Thank god I'm doing some battle damage to the tank :-) I need to pracktise more I think.
The included chain were a pain to assemble, so I bought another brand from ebay.

I also adde some other small details, and changed some plastic parts on the roof for Schumo(1/16 tank brand)

Also on the motor deck I started to change a few parts for schumo. They have much more detail than stock parts. Later I will change the lifting hooks also






Again, schumo instead of plastick parts.

Sollie that's a nice looking build! Right up my street, I can do without the rc. It puts the price way too high if you've got to buy new.

Ok before I go on. IF you deside to do a 1/16 (rc) there are several routes one can go. Tamiya is way overpriced.( I know, molds are expencive) But It has been , up to now , the only kit that offers almost correct looks of the real tank, and include the best hardware( gearboxes and drive and sound system)

They will soon release a is2 full rc . I wonder how much it will cost :-)

You can now buy much cheaper brands like Heng Long, but then you have to add much details,( well you have to on a tamiya to :-) ) and correckt much, like on the tiger, vision port is wrong, barrel is to short, and turret is offset. But they are very cheap compared. Then one could, if not keeping it statick, add new stronger gearboxes and sound and driving systems that now are with par ore in some cases beyond tamiya.
(they use the same sound for tiger-kt-phanter and jagdpanther :-( ) with the new system you can 'build you're own sound file etc)

Ok so before moving on to finish the roof and start on the engine plate I just had to add some battle damage.

And since I did a , well , not the best job on the PE parts I thought it needed to show some hits to the side to.

I think I will pick up the Aber 1/16 fender set for the jagdpanther, to make it easier to create the bent parts.

How does it look, can I get away with it :-)

So finall picture for now. This is how it is at the moment. Before I continue, I think I have to get the sturm - elefant and the jagdpanzer done.Next I plan to do the roof, I have most of the parts, and the move on to the motor deck and finally do the real plate. After that it's all on the lower hull, wheels and belts.

Well look what I found in a dark corner in my basement.. About time to get this one going again.

Sorry, no massive updates, but here is what it is now.

Antenna base moded to better fit the showel

alter the filler cap

split it in 4 and cut it off. Re made it With some evergreen and a steel top from tank modelbau ( item 710)

since this has been built before by another , the inner Wheels is showing tendensy to be a tad to wide, so the belt wont run Nice and loose on them. Also I did not like how some of them turned out .



So I had to split them all , and grind Down a few mm to each of them to get to sit well, and track run Nice and loose .

So while I was at it , I re painted the Wheels .



And used AK dust the fade them Down a tad.

Now a hobby within the hobby of rc tanks, for me, is to create my own soundfiles from various youtube Clips. that be the saumur ore Trier panther / jagdpanther .
