My next victim a 1/16 Elephant The tracks about 260+ tracklinks Step one removing all the runners and you have enough resin left over for a 1/35 model Those are the first 130 links After a few day`s the tracklinks are all cleaned up and ready voor assembly when they are needed Close up from what rolled steel must be not really correct to my opinion I have used some putty and after its dry I wet sanded everything so that I get a better surface.................. I hope The pieces from the hull are geu togheter with a 2K gleu for a better attachment.. And a new cleaning job is waithing for me

I have done today after a long time not working on this model a test for making the zimmerit. I have used a plate of glass, two 0,30mm plastic strips some stuff from the kitchen, doint know what it is but its worked agains the sticking of the Magic Sculp :-) and a Xacto chisel for the pattern. Thicknes looks fine The pattern, its now a litlle flat becaus I made the pattern on the glasplate and aply it afterwards on the model and must use a litle pushing to stick on the model. Later I rol first the MS aply it to the model and made then the pattern.

the trick with rolling the putty on the glassplate did not work well I was stil getting trouble sticking the putty on the model, so I did it the old way :-) Smooting it a litlle with a wet finger Made the pattern with a Xacto chissel looks nice but difficult to get it on a photo :-(

I included these comments since your last response to me via private message about wanting detail pics etc. Nice work on the zimm. Paul PS Did you do the masters for this kit? I seem to recall a discussion about this kit on another forum?

Ron,
Sorry I didn't realize you posted a response on July 3rd in my PM...
If you need any photos showing the details mentioned above, don't hesitate to PM or post here in the forums.
I know this vehicle pretty well since I did quite a lot of research years ago for a project I started...but turned into another shelf queen...
Regards, Paul

The larger the better! Ron, thanks for showing this build! Wished IMAI would re-release their 1/16 scale kit again, or, even better, Mr Tamiya would listen! I did the Zimmerit on my 1/16 scale King Tiger using Tamiya´s 2K green putty. Worked great. As does your job with MS here! Would you bother to tell me where this kit is available from? Thank you!

Correct me if I`m wrong but this kit is no more in production Thomas_M, I found this one on Ebay Germany for a nice price. I decide to made some batlle damage on the Zimmerit Just kidding :-) I was not happy with the result, the pattern was good but the layer Magic Sculp was not egale enough for me so I started all over and I thinks its looks much better now :-)

While you're studying the top plate pics I sent you, the center ventilator (the diamond shaped box in the middle)has a drain hole on the left side front plate flush with the top plate...in the middle of the left side vertical plate.
Not sure you can see that in the pics.
Regards, Paul
