Andy- I have sat in on meetings like you just had. The news is horrific. Like the other guys I am sick for you! BUT, YOU CAN HANDLE EVERYTHING THAT IS AHEAD.
Give yourself a couple of days to absorb it. Then start thinking about what you are going to do when you have recovered. Positive attitude is as important as any other part of your treatment!
I will be praying for you and your family to be strong, and for your doctors to apply their skills well. You caught it early so there is plenty of reason to be positive!
I have experience with family members with cancer. Mom has been in remission for 22 years, Dad for 8 years. Just know that this is 2013- not 1980. You should anticipate success! :-)

Just read of this, my condolences regarding this awful news. Given my profession I've participated in a quantity of these surgeries and while they are serious, I have not seen a poor outcome at the level you've described as metastisis is unlikely. The kidneys are marvelously redundant organs and I have seen patients do splendidly for decades with just one so I'd not resign myself to dialysis were I you.
That being said, the best to you in this frightening and uncertain time.
Hang in there Mark

Hi all recently i have had a kidney stone operation which was sussesful and today i had to go for a follow up. I had a swelling on one of my kidneys and was told it was due to an infection.Today i went for results which as a shock was informed i had cancer. Apparently it is at an early stage and i have to have my kidney and the tube to my bladder removed. I have had a worrying thought but didnt exspect this today. I am not going to be myself sometimes lads and i am shitting it to be honest. Andy, I have had my left kidney removed at the end of March this year. I had a 10cm cancer Tumour attached to it so the whole lot had to come out. It was not to bad as I have a spare kidney on the other side. If you need some one to talk to or would like to ask any questions about the operation and after care just ask I will tell you in any amount of detail which you would like. I can even post a photo of my scars if you would like to see the damage it causes. You can send me a private message if you don't want talk on the board. Hope things go as well for you as they did for me. steve
