Well, todays my birthday, but more importantly for this build: Ayrtons birthday as well! So I was thinking it's a good day to start the build.
I cleaned up the monocoque already and added the parts for the front suspension. Plan is not to go heavy on AM parts, just some detailing of the engine using some rod and getting an aftermarket sheet of decals (with Marlboro advertisement!) and some 'Good Year' templates for the tyres.
thanks for the many birthday wishes and positive replies fellas!
Andy: no Duvel just yet
SteveM: yup, it's the Tamiya MP4/5B 1:20 kit:
Well, started to add some paint today. I primered the parts using Mr. Surfacer 1200 and after that some layers of Tamiya Semi Gloss Black were sprayed on. Will need some touching up here and there though.
I'm not going to add much in terms of extras, but one thing I couldn't leave is adding the steering rod. I took a plastic rod, painted it Vallejo Brass and glued it into place. Small detail which really adds to the model I think
Steering wheel was painted as well and the decal for the display added. Will need a lot more SOL though
That's it for todays update
And errr, the new F1 season began last weekend and what an exciting first race again...lookin' forward to this weekend
Some how missed this one Wouts!!...oh and the Birthday too, me thinks! Happy belated Birthday from last month!! This is a hot ride!! Off to a nice start too!! Looking forward to the shinny stuff my friend!!
BJ and T, glad to have you here fellas. T, thanks for the birthday wishes bud
Well, finally the paints needed arrived last week, and I found some time to continue this one. I already sealed the monocoque and added the first batch of advertising decals. Engine and different parts already got their basecoat.
especially weathering and further painting of the exhausts gives me some worries, any tips on how to do it?
As for your question on the pipes Wout's : I'm not so sure about colour on the F1 Zorsts buddy, I've only built the one F1 car and that was an oldie Honda that required black pipes. Have you got any pics of this cars exhaust setup ?
I wouldn't want to suggest something that is not gonna be right.
I had some more time today to play a bit more with the airbrush. The transmission box was painted with a brush and the engine parts were done as well, thought it's all a dryfit at the moment. Some wiring needs to be added, although I added some wire to the box on top of the monocoque, the wire is courtesy of Model Factory Hiro. Starts to look like a F1 car now...^^
Monday I placed an order at the Hiroboy site and after two days a package arrived. Amongst it the paint necessary for the McLaren livery, and a mask. Since ventilation is pretty much non existent in my basement I thought it wasn't a bad idea of getting one. After all I don't think that Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner is very healthy stuff.
